GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under the direct supervision of the Sr Director or designee, the Refrigeration Maintenance Technician Assistant II works in the maintenance repair and preventative maintenance of all equipment assigned to this section. Specific duties include cleaning, installing, repairing, replacing insulation, filters, and other components of the assigned systems.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains records and pertinent data for hospital Joint Commission PMs.
  • Maintains spare part inventory for Joint Commission PMs and anticipates future needs.
  • Ability to perform minor troubleshooting during routine preventive maintenance.
  • Install pipe covering and other forms of insulation on refrigeration equipment when needed.
  • May perform maintenance and repairs of refrigerated equipment that does not require a refrigeration license.
  • Assisting licensed refrigeration technicians as needed.
  • Perform refrigerant recovery and the necessary documentation.
  • May perform functional supervision of contractors as directed.
  • Conform with codes, rules, regulations, and safety standards associated with the trade.
  • While in the performance of routine duties; may be required to perform all work associated with all maintenance trades of an equal or lower grade classification, where the work or task does not require a specific license.
  • Must be able to use a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for work assignments and or performing tasks and recording time and work completion. 
  • May assist in snow removal and campus emergencies.
  • Attend required meetings.
  • Performs other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Trade school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years experience assisting with related refrigeration equipment.
  • EPA 608 Universal Certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
  • Ability to use hand and shop tools used in the maintenance and repair of refrigerated systems.
  • Ability to read and understand sketches and manufacturers instructions.
  • Ability to communicate with skilled and unskilled personnel to accomplish a task or solve a problem.
  • Ability to utilize electronic devices, such as an iPad.
  • Effective communication skills – verbal and written.
  • Valid drivers license, and ability to travel to off-site locations.
