POSITION SUMMARY: 

Under the direction of the Social Media Manager or designee, the Marketing Content Coordinator supports the Office of Communications and the overall mission of the Medical School by working as a creative storyteller to highlight the stories and accomplishments of students in the three schools that comprise UMass Chan Medical School – the T.H. Chan School of Medicine, the Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing and the Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.  Content that is created by the Marketing Content Coordinator will populate the UMass Chan News site, social media channels and marketing materials, highlighting the excellence of UMass Chan students among internal and external audiences and elevating the reputation and profile of the Medical School as we market to prospective students, communicate to key stakeholders and inform our community of faculty, staff and learners.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Write accurate, interesting, creative and compelling content about students and the student experience at UMass Chan, such as news style articles, profiles and Q&As, that can be distributed in a variety of ways, including online, on social media, in the @umasschan magazine, in marketing campaigns and in presentations.
  • Cultivate relationships with students and school leaders; collaborate respectfully to successfully achieve mutual goals.
  • Serve as primary contact with student liaisons and student-related contacts in three graduate schools; T.H. Chan School of Medicine, Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing
  • Serve as the primary backup to the Social Media Manager, creating content for, posting on and monitoring the institutional social media accounts when the Social Media Manager is on vacation.
  • Ensure great attention to detail and exhibit strong written, digital and interpersonal communication skills
  • Work independently and as part of a team; take a creative approach to planning and problem-solving while also taking direction well.
  • Collaborate closely with members of the OC team to develop and tell stories.
  • Inform and attain goals that may change over time to align with the overall goals of the University.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, journalism, marketing or a related field
  • 1-3 years of professional experience
  • Relevant experience in content creation
  • Familiarity with social media platforms
  • Strong conceptual and writing skills, a meticulous eye for detail, accuracy and the ability to take a project from inception to completion
  • Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to establish and maintain respectful professional relationships with students, faculty, administration and colleagues.
  • Ability to meet long and short-term deadlines, and to work simultaneously on multiple projects
  • Ability to work independently and/or as part of a small team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in a higher education, health care or life sciences setting
  • Experience taking still photo, creating simple videos and/or graphics
  • Experience utilizing social media in a business setting
  • Knowledge of Associated Press style
