This internship program will begin Monday June 6th and will end Friday, August 12th. The pay is $16/hour and the position is expected to be full-time over those 10 weeks. This will be an onsite internship. 

About Emerging Professionals Summer Internship Program (EPSIP) at UMass Chan Medical School

The Emerging Professionals Summer Internship Program (EPSIP) is a paid internship experience for talented college students.  Individuals historically underrepresented in STEM, health science and medicine are strongly encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to students that identify from one of the following underrepresented groups in STEM, health science and medicine:  Black/African Americans, Hispanic or Latinx, American Indian or Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and other Pacific Islanders, individuals with a disability or the first in their family to attend college, are also strongly encourage to apply.

Participants in the EPSIP program benefit from:

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

UMass Medical School’s Information Technology Innovation Internship program is designed to provide exceptional opportunities for talented students and to strengthen UMMS’ technology ecosystem through the innovative ideas and infectious energy of the interns. The IT Intern will get an opportunity to collaborate with a dynamic team of dedicated individuals committed to delivering forward thinking solutions with a focus on continuous improvement and advancing the health and well-being of the people in Massachusetts and the world through ground-breaking development in education, research and health care delivery.

A Automation and Orchestration Internship position is available with an exciting opportunity to:

  • Implement processes to automate and provision resources and provide IT services
  • Produce solutions to enable operational efficiencies
  • Produce a solution to enable the customer consumption of IT services

In a typical day and week, you will:

  • Work with an agile team to complete tasks within a sprint
  • Attend daily standup meetings as well as weekly brainstorming and planning sessions
  • Access online resources and work with team members to assist in researching solutions

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Utilize innovative ideas and approaches to assist in the development of working models to serve the needs of our faculty, students and researchers
  • Complete a project from start to finish and write-up and present the work product to the UMass community
  • Participate in team projects
  • Conduct online research
  • Perform other duties as required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Must be a currently enrolled student in a higher education institution or recent graduate
  • Solid analytical and communication skills
  • Attention to detail with the ability to collect and record information from a wide variety of sources
  • Must be reliable and able to set consistent work hours
  • Proven interest in IT and passion in furthering the mission of UMMS
  • Must have above average academic performance

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Under the direction of the assigned Supervisor and assistance of assigned Mentor

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience developing and maintaining proper technical and user documentation in a consistent and structured manner
  • Experience in automation via Bash/shell scripting and Perl/Python programming and PowerShell
  • Experience with automation and orchestration frameworks
  • Experience with Cloud Technologies, Hypervisor Technologies and services
  • Experience with Application hosting solutions including (IIS, Tomcat, Apache)
  • Experience with Container Services
  • Experience with serverless and microservice design including (AWS Lambda, SQS, SNS, Kinesis) 
  • Solid interpersonal skills with ability to work well with people of all levels of information technology expertise and comfort in varied organizational relationships
  • Ability to identify and learn emerging technologies

  • Usual office or laboratory environment
  • This is a paid temporary, non-benefitted role
