POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Director of Compensation and Total Rewards, the Compensation Analyst is responsible for supporting compensation administration and implementation for UMass Chan’s various compensation programs. This includes areas related to compensation requirements, including position descriptions and evaluations, FLSA testing, salary administration and conducting compensation analyses. This position will assist with the implementation of compensation programs, helping translate strategy into results. The Compensation Analyst will help ensure our compliance with the Mass Pay Equity Law and other relevant federal and state wage and salary laws and regulations. Perform financial/compensation modeling and analysis to support sound compensation decision-making. This position will work in collaboration with the rest of the Compensation team to communicate the spirit and guidelines of the MEPA law to the UMass Chan organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Participates in the analysis and recommendations of job evaluations, salary administration and other related UMass Chan compensation programs.
- Collaborates with the Compensation team to review job descriptions, (Education & Experience, Skill Sets), job classifications, internal equity, market data, salary bands, etc. in the analysis and review of positions within the organization.
- Possess and use the skill to analyze and evaluate job content and job leveling to create comparable work groupings as per the Mass Pay Equity Law.
- Analyze comparable groups for outliers or unique positions that should be classified separately (organize justification files for these positions) and make job offer / promotional salary recommendations.
- Acts as a Compensation business consultant to UMass Chan managers and leaders.
- Provides training to HR and business units on the intricacies of a MEPA analysis.
- Maintains and updates compensation databases and the job description library; consults with HR systems analysts regarding problems with programming and data integrity.
- Run data reports to be used in preparing Compensation metrics.
- Other duties and responsibilities as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Management or a relevant discipline.
- 3-5 year’s experience with compensation programs and analysis work.
- Knowledge of federal and state wage and salary laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of Massachusetts Equal Pay Act (MEPA) and a minimum of 1 years’ experience utilizing the MA Attorney General’s tools to create comparable groups (internal equity).
- Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports as well as perform regression analysis
- Experience with databases for accessing compensation information and associated job descriptions
- Knowledge of an organizational structure, staffing patterns, and job design as they relate to a compensation department.
- Strong ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities to deadlines
- Strong Technical Skills (MS office – Word, Excel, Project, SharePoint, and PowerPoint)
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work with and present effectively to leadership, stakeholders and peers
