GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under the direct supervision the Senior Director or designee, the Painter applies paints, varnishes, polyurethane, wallpaper, plaster patches and other finish applications by means of rollers, brushes, trowels, spray equipment.

This position is evening shift. The expected hours are 2:30pm-11:00pm, Monday-Friday.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Functional supervision and instruction of others in installation and maintenance techniques.
  • Maintains records and pertinent data.
  • Maintaining spare parts inventory and anticipating future needs.
  • Updating preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Ensures materials and equipment requirements are at site to complete work in an efficient manner.
  • Apply paint, varnish, polyurethane, stain, wallpaper and other finishes with rollers, brushes and other means necessary to complete tasks; including spray equipment.
  • Refinish existing surfaces by removing old finishes including wallpaper by sanding, scraping, burning, etc.
  • Repair existing plaster and masonry walls by filling cracks and holes; also apply thin layers of joint compound when necessary.
  • Mix and match paints being applied to wood, metal, plaster, and masonry and other surfaces to ensure proper matches.
  • Replace broken glass in wood and metal doors and windows.
  • Move, cover and replace furniture to perform assignments. Remove dust and debris from areas upon completion of assignment.
  • Perform minor carpentry repairs where needed.
  • Erect staging, scaffolding and ladders.
  • Clean brushes and equipment to prolong life of equipment.
  • Operate spray guns and automatic paint rollers.
  • While in the performance of routine duties; may be required, as needed to perform all work associated with all maintenance trades of an equal or lower graded classification, where the work or task does not require a specific license.
  • Perform other duties as required.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Trade school diploma or equivalent experience
  • 3 years of experience as a painter
  • Knowledge of tools, materials, methods, and standard practices used in the trade
  • Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions particular to the trade
  • Ability to utilize electronic devices, such as an iPad
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to off-site locations

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Under the direct supervision the Sr Director or designee

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Exercise functional supervision over trades people for assigned projects or tasks.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May perform work in all Medical Center facilities and is subject to possible exposure to chemicals, gases, electrical shock; may work in confined spaces on ladders.
  • Ability to perform physically arduous tasks; normal dexterity, visual acuity, ability to lift up to 50 lbs., ability to climb and work from ladders and scaffolding, and work in confined areas
