This Engineering systems administrator will be responsible for administrating, installing, configuring, and maintaining operating systems and related software to ensure stable performance of the computing environment. This individual will evaluate system specifications, input/output processes and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility. This systems administrator will recognize and troubleshoot networking and operating problems with server hardware and application software, along with assessing implementation strategy and establishing related procedures for management review.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Under the direction of the Manager of Systems Engineering, provide third level support to end users
- Maintain the company’s internal data processing hardware and software
- Acknowledge and resolve user service requests utilizing the service request management system
- Apply standard principles, concepts and techniques toward the identification and resolution of user problems
- Resolve an assortment of problems of moderately complex scope
- Interact with other Systems Administration staff and Manager for assistance and direction, occasionally involved in routine cross organization issues
- Escalate more difficult user issues as appropriate
- Perform other duties as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, or equivalent experience.
- 1 year work experience in a System Administration role, or 2-3 years experience in a PC Services role
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to travel to off-site locations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 1-2 years’ experience in computer system evaluation (Workstation and/or Server), integration, installation, operational administration and support.
- 0-1 year of experience in supporting and maintaining Windows and Linux servers, Windows Active Directory, DNS and DHCP, Antivirus software (Symantec, McAfee, AVG, etc.), virtualization technologies (such as VMWare, HyperV, Xen), batch and/or PowerShell scripting, Server backup software (DPM, NetBackup, Commvault, Networker, Symantec, etc.), shared storage (EMC, HP, Netapp, Dell),
- Experience working in an academic environment
