SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Assistant Vice Provost, Student Life and Director for a Positive Learning Environment (AVPSL/DPLE) serves as a member of the Student Life leadership team and reports directly to the Vice Provost for Student Life and Enrollment (VPSLE). The AVPSL/DPLE plays a pivotal role in aligning programmatic and operational processes supporting the student learning environment and student success at the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS).
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as the Vice Provost’s senior administrative advisor and designee at institutional meetings as asked, and as a member of the Student Life leadership team; | |
Collaborate with faculty leaders, institutional partners and student services stakeholders in programmatic planning to ensure optimal efficiency, effectiveness and quality of the programs designed to meet the needs of students and the UMMS educational mission; | |
Under the oversight of the VPSLE, coordinate and oversee the working group for UMMS 3 school calendar alignment; | |
Oversee and coordinate the 3-school Orientation activities for the campus, collaborating with the Offices of Student Affairs in the School of Medicine (SOM), Graduate School of Nursing (GSN) and Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS); | |
Collaborate with Information Technology (IT) partners on orientation and matriculation processes as they relate to student records and enrollment, across the 3 schools | |
Member of IT Ed committee, as liaison for the Office of Student Life; | |
Collaborate in the planning and execution of UMMS recurring cycle of academic and social events, directly overseeing the Student Life team in their planning of select 3-school educational events, and working in collaboration with University Events as needed | |
Oversee the administrative needs for the Student Government Alliance, and all other School of Medicine student groups and organizations. | |
Collaborate with the Diversity and Inclusion office, GME and the 3 school student affairs teams, with regard to development, revision, and communication of the Appropriate Treatment of Learners (ATL) policy for the community; | |
Provide education for faculty and students regarding the ATL policy, including education for major affiliate education sites; | |
Provide annual reports to the VPSLE on ATL complaints and activities; | |
Work with the VPSLE to manage student life incidents and crises, serving as primary point of contact for these concerns; | |
Develop, maintain, respond to and monitor student concerns reported via the ATL policy/mistreatment reporting system; | |
Coordinate with other institutional officials and offices regarding Title IX reporting, policy and communication; | |
Supervise MSW in our student coaching program, developing programming for students in skills building and professional development; | |
Collaborate with Student Counseling Services on initiatives and programs to support student well-being; | |
Collaborate with the AVP for Health and Well-Being on student well-being programming; | |
Supervise the Project Coordinator for Student Life, providing oversight and guidance for policy development and operations with regard to initiatives involving the student government, student activities and events and finances related to student activities, student trustee election, code of conduct, drug testing and background checks; | |
Adhere to University, State, and funding agency regulations. | |
Perform other duties as required. |
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree, MSW, LCSW
- 5 years related experience
- 2 years supervisory experience or equivalent;
- Excellent writing, communication, data analysis, interpersonal, leadership and organization skills required;
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, complex projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities and needs required with professionalism, diplomacy and composure;
- Proficiency with diverse technology tools and processes for efficient and effective management of assigned work duties and in the advancement of the office operations overall, to include document creation and online publication, information sharing and data collection and analysis, including formal reports and presentations, education support and delivery (currently including Microsoft suite, Blackboard, PeopleSoft, OASIS);
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and trustworthy management of institutional data, including student and faculty evaluation and staff performance appraisal documentation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- PhD / EdD preferred
- Experience in higher education preferred
- Web-fluency preferred
