GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under the direction of the Director, Space Management & Planning or designee, the Facilities Planner is responsible for facilities planning of the Medical School including documentation of existing conditions, analysis of space usage and developing new facilities, alterations, and expansions.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Director of Planning & Data Systems in management of all institutional space planning requirements including short and long-term space planning initiatives.
  • Develop and manage a space inventory/facilities utilization program for the Medical Center. Maintain up-to-date database.
  • Identify and evaluate facilities needs for new Medical Center programs and provide facility-planning input for proposed new programs and renovations.
  • Obtain, analyze, document and present facility-planning information including space usage, occupancy and impact of proposed changes.
  • Develop and present alternative solutions to complex facility planning issues.
  • Develop planning documentation for new Master Space Plan, as well as building proposal studies. Coordinate projects with State Agencies.
  • Manage the design and updates of space plans on Auto CAD for all properties under the oversite of UMass Medical School or its affiliates. Assist in managing and co-coordinating space planning for the same.
  • Responsible for reviewing, planning and execution of all moves for the site
  • Assist in the development of standards for office, labs and other administrative space
  • Responsible for tracking, maintaining and ordering all furniture inventories.
  • Undertake such efforts as may be requested or as appropriate with respect to facilities planning.
  • Perform other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Planning or Architecture, or equivalent experience
  • 4 years’ experience in facilities planning or related experience.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Familiarity with building codes, regulations and guidelines, which affect care and educational facilities.
  • Familiarity with computer aided design/drafting computer base facility management systems.
  • Knowledge of drafting technique.
  • Physical requirements include manual dexterity of hands and fingers, visual accurate.
  • Good technical writing and communications skills. Experience in making presentations to senior level management and administrative groups.
