Under the general direction of the Chief Human Resources Officer or designee, the Director, Talent Acquisition is responsible both directly and through a team of professionals to define and execute talent acquisition strategy, policies and best-in class practices based on program and enterprise-wide talent needs. The Director will also champion the talent acquisition process for our Strategic Business Units (SBU) to ensure a steady flow of high quality candidates to support our mission and business goals and to ensure that UMMS is hiring the best possible talent. This position will use a variety of mediums to recruit for talent, such as social media, networking, cold calling, competitor analysis, as well as traditional recruitment methods. The Director, Talent Acquisition will also be responsible for creating and maintaining our Talent Acquisition metrics to accurately track our success and identify opportunity trends, sourcing and recruitment training, recruitment technology including the UMMS Applicant Tracking System, the Talent Policy and Procedure Manual, the Talent Toolkit and other tools that measure and promote UMMS talent acquisition effectiveness.
- With a high sense of urgency and using best-in-class sourcing and recruitment practices, provide leadership, direction and coaching to the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS) Talent Acquisition team
- In support of our growing Strategic Business Units (SBU), continuously improve our talent model, policies and procedures so as to align with UMMS’ mission and business needs as it relates to job sourcing, candidate management, consultative candidate prescreening, and best practices in interviewing, screening, and employee selection strategies
- Develop and execute high level recruiting strategies in partnership with Talent Acquisition Specialists tailored to different functional business units within UMMS
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with SBU leaders through an extensive and detailed understanding of the SBU's business, strategic direction, processes and policies
- Forecast SBU talent planning and recruitment needs based on workforce trends and strategic direction and implement innovative recruitment strategies linked with business needs
- Conduct regular follow-up with hiring managers to determine the effectiveness of recruiting plans and implementation
- Analyze trends in job market, local and national communities, graduation rates, internal demographics and participate in the assessment and forecasting of how organizational growth or changes impact the staffing outlook and SBU business performance
- For both active and passive candidate recruiting, identify and search niche, posting and social networking sites, job fairs, on campus recruiting, professional association events, etc. to drive the UMMS brand to build and develop a robust talent pipeline that aligns with our SBU's needs and requirements
- Apply recruitment tools such as applicant tracking and key performance metrics to hold the team accountable including managing and optimizing the UMMS Applicant Tracking System
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of recruiting issues and trends, labor laws, and legislative initiatives that have short and long-term implications to UMMS while ensuring that sourcing and recruitment programs are in compliance with state and federal laws and guidelines, policies, procedures and the UMMS Affirmative Action plan
- Coordinate social media including the daily operational management of Linked In & Job Target specifically
- Oversee and manage the UMMS Talent Sourcing Database
- Provide oversight for coordination of campus hiring events and career fairs for Talent Team
- Manage special employment programs and internships such as summer and part-time programs such as veterans, people with disabilities and volunteers and interns
- Collaborate with HR Services, Compensation, Immigration and/or other appropriate Human Resources departments to facilitate recruiting efforts as needed
- Keep up to date, manage and standardize talent acquisition operational procedures, practices and policies in conjunction with the HR Compliance Team
- Work closely with Diversity and Inclusion office to ensure that recruitment and selection processes are in accordance with state and federal guidelines and supportive of UMMS’ overall diversity and inclusion initiatives
- Collaborate with other content experts to provide appropriate training for staff in the areas including but not limited to employment law, UMMS policy, technology changes, effective interviewing techniques, staffing trends and processes and diversity
- Direct and supervise team members including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training while ensuring that the team provides quality seamless customer service
- Make recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, terminations, and similar actions
- Perform similar or related duties as required or directed
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Communications, Marketing or a related discipline
- At least eight (8) years’ experience in full-life cycle recruiting/talent acquisition of which at least two (2) must be in a leadership role
- Must be able to wear all “hats” related to recruiting operations full-life cycle in a fast pace environment
- Advanced web searching skills and a proven track record of sourcing all levels of active and passive candidates is a must
- Significant knowledge of hiring processes, project participation and management, Applicant Tracking systems and talent acquisition reporting metrics is also required
- Must have a history of commitment to inclusive hiring best practices and the ability to support diversity in workforce recruitment and retention
- Ability to effectively prioritize the workload taking into account customer's needs while delivering or adjusting expectations
- Must be able to manage and resolve complex customer situations while creating and maintaining a team culture that has a high level of responsiveness to its customers
- Unsurpassed professionalism, good communication skills and the ability to quickly grasp the complexities of the various UMMS business units and roles in order to portray them properly to prospective candidates is required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proficiency with iCIMS Talent Management Platform is a plus
- Certified Social Sourcing Recruiter (CSSR) is highly desirable
- Previous experience in a large complex organizational culture preferably in academic medical centers or life sciences
