GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under the general supervision of the Director or designee the Mechanic is responsible for trouble shooting equipment, vehicle repairs and conducting diagnostic testing.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide routine maintenance and repairs to gasoline and diesel vehicles and equipment.
- Perform oil and filter changes, belt and brake repairs etc. according to preventive maintenance schedules
- Oversight of above fuel system including ordering, receiving, records, etc.
- Proper disposal of hazardous waste (oil, antifreeze, gasoline, cleaners, etc.)
- Renew vehicle registration/license plates, and inspections for all vehicles ensuring accurate record keeping
- Liaison to insurance companies in relation to vehicle related claims
- Determine need to send vehicle to outside vendor for extensive repair and subsequently schedule repair with outside vendor, arrange/drive vehicle to and from vendor repair site, ensure that appropriate work is completed for vendor and that the respective invoice is accurate, and ensure that work is completed in a timely manner, and ensure that invoices are turned in for payment
- Ensure minimal downtime related to any/all vehicle repair
- Test-drive all vehicles to ensure driver and passenger safety
- Establish and maintain good working relationship with outside vendors
- Report incidents of vehicle abuse to appropriate department manager
- Maintain warranty status on all vehicles; maximizing warranty benefits
- Participate in annual budget development for vehicle maintenance with manager
- Oversee towing of all vehicles and subsequent payment for service
- Maintain shop stock
- Assign work using the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) system
- Assist in snow removal and campus emergencies
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate degree in automotive technology or ASE certification with minimum of five (5) years of employment performing specialized maintenance, mechanical diagnosis, problem-solving, inspection and repair on vehicles and/or landscape equipment;
- Eight (8) years of employment experience performing specialized maintenance, mechanical diagnosis, problem-solving, inspection and repair on vehicles and/or landscape equipment may be substituted for an associates in automotive technology or ASE certification
- Knowledge of the laws, rules and regulations governing the operation of motor vehicles
- Microsoft office experience
- Valid Class D Driver’s License

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to acids, fluids, greases, dirt, and oils and with some equipment that can be hazardous when operated properly.
