GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under the direct supervision of the supervisor or designee, the Mailroom Clerk I receives, sorts, and distributes all incoming and outgoing mail for the Medical School and various off-site locations.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receive and sort all incoming mail by department for delivery including various off-site locations
- Look up mailing addresses when addressee not known
- Deliver all incoming mail and interoffice mail by department and collects outgoing mail
- Examine collected mail for proper distribution (On-Campus mail, Off-site mail, United States Postal Service mail and Overnight mail)
- Weigh outgoing mail and affixes the proper postage using appropriate agency shipping system
- Perform various records keeping assignments for all accountable mail to insure proper cost allocation
- Interact with customers to assist them in complying with various agency regulations and procedures
- Maintain shipping equipment and notifies the Supervisor when equipment is not running properly
- Assist other members of the department as needed
- Perform other duties as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent experience
- Capable of pushing mail cart and lifting carrying of heavy objects weighing up to 50 lbs
- Ability to understand verbal or written instructions
- Basic computer knowledge required
- Demonstrated ability to read names and address on mail
- Basic math skills required for weighing mail and determining the correct postage
- Capable of walking and standing for extended periods of time
- Motor coordination in order to rapidly and accurately sort mail
- Ability to travel to off-site locations
