GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: 


Under the general direction of the Executive Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance (EVC), the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Grants and Contacts Administration (AVCG&C) provides support and guidance to researchers and administrators on “Pre” and “Post” award administration, compliance and University policies and procedures.  Work closely with senior administration to direct initiatives impacting the campus grant portfolio. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Provide strategic direction and planning for the Office of Grants and Contracts Administration developing and implementing short and long-term goals

  • Collaborates with senior administration on initiatives to advance the research portfolio of the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS)

  • Oversee the infrastructure and business processes of the office, implementing efficiencies that result in a positive impact for principal investigators and staff

  • Responsible for “Pre and Post award grant and contract compliance with all federal, state, local and private granting agencies.

  • Establish internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data and systems.

  • Directs the development of the federal indirect cost proposal

  • Provide leadership in developing and mentoring of office staff

  • Manage Export Control Compliance and Foreign Project Registration

  • Direct office staff in the development of policies, procedures and training material

  • Represent UMMS at National Research organizations and University system meetings

  • Advocate for principal investigators and the campus with sponsors

  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationship with other UMMS departments and University system campuses to assess, direct and develop needed administrative infrastructure to support research

  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


 



  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 10-15 years of demonstrated administrative and leadership responsibility in Research Administration

  • Possess a high level of Communication skills, both oral and written including presentations, proposals, reports and memoranda

  • High level of competency with systems applications and systems implementation

  • Capacity to manage complex operational priorities, develop strategies and collaborate with others to resolve complex problems

  • Advanced level of working with OMB uniform guidance

  • Knowledge of accounting, budgeting and reporting


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 



  • Significant experience in grant management within a research healthcare or higher education environment 

  • Experience with systems implementation
