GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under the general direction of the Assistant Controller, the Staff Accountant gathers financial data, prepares financial analyses, and assists with the preparation of financial statements for presentation to senior management.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for senior management, the University, and the State as required
- Assist in preparing, reviewing, and coordinating audit work papers and financial analysis
- Assist with plans to coordinate year-end closing, the financial audit, and State audits
- Communicate effectively with all levels of management regarding fiscal policies and give direction in the implementation of these policies
- Prepare monthly reconciliations for key accounts
- Prepare reports and provides financial spreadsheet or data analysis for School departments and management as needed
- Keep current on new reporting requirements and regulations
- Recommend improvements to financial controls and reporting
- Provide School departments with needed information and assists in problem resolution
- Maintain current knowledge in areas related to primary job function through training courses or review written material
- Communicate (oral and written) with departmental staff and Medical Center
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or equivalent
- 3 years financial accounting & reporting, or related experience
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and writing skills needed to present or communicate effectively with all levels of management
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret financial documents such as system reports at both account and summary levels
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar software
- PeopleSoft experience a plus
