We are seeking a smart, curious and creative IT Database Architect Intern The candidate will bring together information and attributes from a multitude of sources into a central database/warehouse. The right candidate will review technology solutions such as mongodb and recommend a solution based on analysis performed as part of this internship. The end result will be to secure data, provide API(s) for other teams and engineers to utilize. As part of this internship you will create an app or web application utilizing the data. One example of a deliverable product would be a "Who's who/yellow pages" for the institution.

Responsibilities:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Utilize innovative ideas and approaches to assist in the development of working models to serve the needs of our faculty, students and researchers
  • Complete a project from start to finish and write-up and present the work product to the UMass community
  • Participate in team projects
  • Conduct online research
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Must be a currently enrolled student in a higher education institution or recent graduate
  • Solid analytical and communication skills
  • Attention to detail with the ability to collect and record information from a wide variety of sources
  • Must be reliable and able to set consistent work hours
  • Proven interest in IT and passion in furthering the mission of UMMS
  • Must have above average academic performance

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2+ years demonstrated experience with multiple technology disciplines: including windows environment
  • Experience with relational databases, SQL queries, Stored Procedures, Views, Functions, Triggers, ETL
  • Experience with non-relational (NoSQL) databases. (MongoDB, RedShift, DynamoDB, Cassandra)
  • Course work in: Database architecture, data modeling or administration; development; analysis or development life cycle
  • Experience building and consuming web services
  • Field of studies that may be interested in this internship would be data scientist, data architect or information architect
  • Studied relational and non-relational database management systems,  SQL coding and Object Relational Mapping tools such as Entity Framework
  • Studied modern development processes/tools and developing through the complete Software Development Life Cycle
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Excellent problem solving skills required
