A research associate (open recruitment) position is available in the laboratory of Milena Bogunovic, M.D., Ph.D. in the Department of Pathology at UMass Medical School (Worcester, MA): https://146.189.216.212/bogunoviclab/
Our research is focused on the role of mononuclear phagocytes (dendritic cells and macrophages) in mucosal immunology and neuroimmune interactions in the gastrointestinal tract to understand the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease. Major responsibilities will include handling research animals: maintaining a large mouse colony, genotyping, and performing major manipulations (measuring body weight, fecal sample collections, oral gavage, bleeding, i/p injections etc). Other research techniques used in the lab include multicolor flow cytometry and FACS, fluorescent confocal and two-photon microscopy combined with bulk and single cell transcriptomics to reconstruct the dynamics and anatomy of immune interactions in the intestinal tissue of mice and humans: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/myncbi/1-_tjBF6I7hku/bibliography/public/.
Requirements: bachelors degree, major in biology. Previous experience working in the lab and with mice is a big plus.
Research Site: UMass Medical School (https://www.umassmed.edu), a progressive academic and research center and hospital is conveniently located in Worcester, MA, near Boston metropolitan area and picturesque New England countryside. The laboratory is placed in a contemporary research building with an open lab floor plan to promote interactions and collaborations with trainees in other labs. The Department of Pathology and other departments under the institutional Microbiology and Immunology Graduate Program have a strong focus on fundamental aspects of innate and adaptive immunity, host-pathogen interactions and immunological disorders. Together, they provide an outstanding working and training environment.
