GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under the general direction of the Executive Director, Advancement or designee, the Sr. Major Gifts Officer will assist with and initiate the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects capable of making leadership gifts to UMass Chan Medical School. The Sr. Major Gifts Officer will have regular interaction with the Schools leadership, faculty and staff.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and manage a prospect portfolio of 150+ donor prospects
- Plan and implement cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies to motivate donors
- Solicit contributions of $25,000 or more
- Responsible for identifying potential donors, creating donor strategies and meeting activity goals
- Work closely with faculty and staff to develop effective strategies for prospects with the capacity to make a donation, and collaboratively design stewardship strategies for existing donors
- Work closely with other members of the advancement staff, the faculty and leadership to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward individual prospects
- Maintain a high level of constituency satisfaction through stewardship of donors
- Conduct all efforts in a fiscally responsible manner
- Fulfill campaign responsibilities, as assigned, to raise support for designated priorities
- Design programmatic initiatives that will help drive new major gift prospects and retain existing major gift donors
- Perform other duties as required
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree, or equivalent experience
- 8 years of successful funding experience in development or academic advancement fields
- 3-5 years experience identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gifts
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills
- Knowledge of computerized data bases and Microsoft Office applications
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize task and meet deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal skills and commitment to being a member of the advancement team
- Ability to travel to off-site locations
- Ability to occasionally work nights and/or weekends
