POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Director or their designee, the Custodian/Driver performs janitorial duties and maintains sanitization of the Adolescent Continuing Care Unit (ACCU), as well as transports patients, staff, families or supplies as needed.  As a member of the Adolescent Continuing Care Unit (ACCU) team, daily communication and interaction is essential as well as working in a professional and safe manner. The incumbent will complete shift transition assignments, report end of shift duties requiring completion and will notify supervisor of maintenance concerns.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs day-to-day housekeeping services to the ACCU to ensure a clean, attractive facility in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Sweeps, vacuums, and washes floors, using appropriate equipment and supplies to maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the ACCU.
  • Dusts, polishes and washes interior surfaces such as windows furniture, walls, ceilings, etc., using appropriate supplies and equipment in order to maintain the building in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Prepares beds after washing using appropriate linen supplies and removes/hangs window draperies and bedside curtains as needed.
  • Cleans toilets, lavatories, washrooms, mop closets, etc., using appropriate supplies and equipment in order to maintain the appearance and cleanliness of such areas.
  • Empties and relines trash receptacles and clears recyclable materials to their proper place, paying particular attention to the safe and proper handling of hazardous waste.
  • Maintain stock of linen and laundry supplies. Transport soiled linens to designated areas.
  • Unload and transport supply deliveries to the ACCU from the loading dock area, and/or accompanies delivery service people to do the same
  • Perform regular safety assessments of furniture, fixtures and equipment throughout the ACCU. Report defective equipment to the supervisor and document any defects in maintenance records.
  • Assists with shoveling and sweeps snow from walkways and steps using proper equipment, to aid in the safety and maintenance of the ACCU as needed.
  • Arranges and prepares conference rooms, patient care areas and other designated areas as needed.
  • Assist in medical and psychiatric emergencies, which may include physical management.
  • Maintain patient property area and other storage areas in the program.
  • Operate program vehicles, following safe driving procedures, to and from designated locations.
  • Confirm details and coordinate logistics surrounding a complex transportation schedule with administrative support staff, and the clinical team.
  • Maintain documentation related to medical appointments and legal proceedings when transporting patients to related appointments.
  • Have basic knowledge of treatment plans and adhere to clinical safety guidelines when transporting patients.
  • Keep vehicle supplied with fuel, report faulty equipment, schedule maintenance, and monitor service intervals for vehicles.
  • Responsible for cleaning and sanitization of program vehicles prior to and following trips.
  • Assist Lead EBS with monitoring inventory of program supplies and transport supplies as needed to the program.
  • Participate in the transportation of patients and their belongings when patients are discharged to new programs throughout the state of Massachusetts.
  • Build and maintain relationships with patients and families and provide support for family members needs during transportation.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English to communicate effectively with a diverse group of employees, supervisors and visitors.
  • Skilled in the ability to follow oral and written instructions/directions.
  • Talent for establishing and maintaining harmonious working relationships and deal tactfully with others.
  • Working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in general institution/hospital housekeeping work.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Must be able to complete program specific trainings including CPR, First Aid and CARE
  • Valid drivers license, and good driving record

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated language skills that allow for two-way communication, effective patient service, coordination with other members of the patient care team.
  • Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency.
