GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under the direct supervision of the Manager or designee, the Waste Management Technician is responsible for final classification and segregation of all types of waste material and preparing these materials for their removal from the institution. This position will assist in recycling programs. Responsible for the implementation of all waste disposal policies and procedures.

 

This position is part time, Saturday and Sunday- 6am-4:30 pm. 

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receive, inspect, and classify types of waste delivered by campus staff
  • Responsible for ensuring that each class of waste is processed according to institutional policies to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements
  • Responsible for ensuring that hazardous materials awaiting removal are stored in a secured location
  • Responsible for cleaning waste removal equipment
  • Assist in recycling program through collection of recycling bins, sorting of materials, and preparing materials for collection
  • Will be responsible for covering other shifts, as required to insure proper operation of waste collection, sorting, and storage
  • Conduct periodic audits of waste and recycling materials received in the handling area
  • While in the performance of routine duties; may be required, where the work or task does not require a specific license 
  • Perform other duties as required

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent experience
  • Ability to complete the internal hazardous material training program within 6 months of hire
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, to evaluate and implement policies and procedures
  • Ability to travel to off-site locations

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Under the direct supervision of the Manager or designee

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Exercises functional supervision over trades people for assigned projects or tasks.

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal visual acuity, manual dexterity, lift, carry, and move at least 50 pounds, arduous tasks, and climbing and working from ladders. Manual dexterity and visual acuity to handle and identify waste products is required
