Under the general direction of the Commonwealth Medicine (CWM) Managing Director, Digital Solutions and as a key member of the CWM IT leadership team, the Deputy Managing Director, Digital Healthcare Solutions (DHCS) is responsible for providing leadership, direction and guidance to the DHCS business unit, wherein innovative digital solutions are envisioned, designed and delivered in response to client demand. In this role the Deputy Managing Director will be expected to lead all aspects of business strategy development, sales and project execution in collaboration with other members of the IT team, CMW leadership as well as subject matter experts in the overall CWM & UMass Chan organization.
The Deputy Managing Director leads and facilitates the strategic direction of the Digital Healthcare Solutions business unit, developing and maintaining a business plan that aligns the capabilities of the organization with market demand to drive CMW’s competitive position and deliver sustainable growth.
The Deputy Managing Director will align new business and operational priorities for the DHC business unit to the goals articulated in the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School and Commonwealth Medicine strategic plans to ensure the proper allocation of capital, talent, and operating expenditures.
Lead the Commonwealth Medicine Digital Healthcare Solutions Business Unit in the definition and delivery of innovative solutions to clients
Collaborating with the Executive Vice Chancellor, Deputy Executive Vice Chancellor, and Managing Director, Digital Solutions, establish and maintain the business unit strategy for the DHCS business unit in alignment with CWM’s strategic plan
Engage with prospects and existing clients to develop demand and respond to opportunities. Define and present solutions that consistently results in new project wins
Maintain productive and positive relationships with all clients and business partners
Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to develop marketing collateral that highlights the unique and compelling value proposition of the DHCS business unit. Participate in marketing efforts to support lead generation
Work with the Sales and Business Development organization to coordinate sales processes and set organizational key performance indicators to gauge performance of the sales pipeline.
Develop and maintain a 5-year business and operating plan that incorporates a portfolio of solution offerings, target client profiles, and financial performance metrics in support of Commonwealth Medicine’s growth and operating targets.
Maintain an awareness of trends in the healthcare market and anticipate the impact on CMW’s prospects and clients and leverage this knowledge to maintain a compelling portfolio of solution offerings
Engage with the Deputy Managing Director, Solutions Engineering and Operations to maintain alignment of the organizational capabilities and capacity to the DHCS demand pipeline
Carry out regular SWOT analyses to identify opportunities and mitigate any potential risks presented by industry and market changes
Collaborate with the Sales and Business Development organization to conduct territory and account planning to ensure effective opportunity identification and win strategies are always in place
Engage regularly with leadership and business partners in finance to maintain a financially sound operating plan
Develop and maintain effective relationships with leaders and subject matter experts throughout CWM and UMass Chan in support of ongoing collaboration to maintain the strength of the DHCS portfolio of offerings
Contribute to a coordinated communications program that effectively articulates CWM’s unique mission, vision, value and strategic goals to internal and external audiences and facilitates dialogue and decision-making among and between CWM’s business units.
Regularly report on the status and health of the DHCS business unit to CWM Executive Leadership
REQUIRED EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required. Master’s degree or equivalent preferred.
REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE
10 + years of experience in advancing leadership positions in roles responsible for the delivery of IT solutions
5 + years of experience leading a practice area or solution set in a professional services organization, preferably in the healthcare industry
Extensive practical business experience in a large, dynamic organization with strong program management knowledge and skills through wide-ranging experiences in the field of program management.
Strong commitment to public service with an entrepreneurial attitude, balanced with the ability to respect, galvanize, organize, and coordinate constituent groups
Comprehensive experience in understanding scope of service drafting for business and other agreements
Demonstrated performance in strategic and financial planning and analysis
Superb ability to interpret market trends related to identifying business development and new product and solution development ventures
Strong analytical and business management skills with track record of problem solving and decision making.
Excellent judgment and ability to work with others, inspires trust with strong communication & presentation skills.
