GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

UMass Medical School’s Information Technology Innovation Internship program is designed to provide exceptional opportunities for talented students and to strengthen UMMS’ technology ecosystem through the innovative ideas and infectious energy of the interns. KPI/Success Measurement Intern

Information Technology at The University of Massachusetts Medical School has an exciting opportunity for a KPI/Success Measurement Intern to join us in the development of key measurements for technology processes and projects.

In collaboration with the individual UMass Chan IT teams, key metrics will be identified, data gathered to support these metrics, reports templates designed, and dashboards established.  The goal of this internship will be to support the individual teams in common data collection and analysis, transparent reports generation and contribution to department level dashboards. Focus of metric development will be:

4. System performance
5. Customer Service

During this internship, the use of data collection and data analytic tools will be required, with a focus on building a common process that is easily sustainable and flexible enough to handle the differences between individual teams’ data. Innovative use of tools to measure key performance indicators is the primary goal.

Innovative data analysts apply! This internship will engage the individual IT teams, whose primary focus is on the success of their customers and helping them achieve success! 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Utilize innovative ideas and approaches to assist in the development of working models to serve the needs of our faculty, students and researchers
• Complete a project from start to finish and write-up and present the work product to the UMass community
• Participate in team projects
• Conduct online research
• Perform other duties as required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be a currently enrolled student in a higher education institution or recent graduate
• Solid analytical and communication skills
• Attention to detail with the ability to collect and record information from a wide variety of sources
• Must be reliable and able to set consistent work hours
• Proven interest in IT and passion in furthering the mission of UMMS
• Must have above average academic performance

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Professional communicator who can present information concisely
• Outstanding listener with an attention to detail
• Strong analytic skills
• Demonstrated familiarity with Power BI and similar data reporting tools
• Familiar with or can quickly learn other data analytics technology
• Preferred experience establishing metrics and KPIs
• Demonstrated ability to build positive and productive professional relationships
• Possesses positive attitude and creativity
• Emerging organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple assignments concurrently
• Demonstrated experience being innovative, flexible, engaging and empowered throughout the delivery cycle
• Demonstrated creative contributor
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multiple teams toward specific goals
• Influences others and can be influenced through character, humility, and example

This is paid, 100% offsite internship position

Duration: 6 months with possibility for extension up to 12 months

Hours: 20-40
