GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

UMass Medical School’s Information Technology Innovation Internship program is designed to provide exceptional opportunities for talented students and to strengthen UMMS’ technology ecosystem through the innovative ideas and infectious energy of the interns. Lab Information Technology Intern

Information Technology at The University of Massachusetts Medical School has an exciting opportunity for a Lab Device Management Intern to join the UMass Chan IT Research Team, assisting them with device inventory and management in support of key Research Core.

Together with the Research Technology, Program Management and the Asset Management teams we will work with individual research Cores,

  • establishing a current inventory of devices and bringing required devices to approved levels
  • using modern asset tracking software evaluating all software used on devices, recommending upgrades as needed
  • working with the Research Cores to establish routine reviews and technology upgrades
  • ensuring that security standards associated with device management and software levels are in place

This internship will expose the right candidate to the technical requirements of the key lab environments.  The device management intern will support the labs, by allowing them more time to focus on their scientific and business goals and by ensuring that their technical devices and software are current and reliable.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Utilize innovative ideas and approaches to assist in the development of working models to serve the needs of our faculty, students and researchers
  • Complete a project from start to finish and write-up and present the work product to the UMass community
  • Participate in team projects
  • Conduct online research
  • Perform other duties as required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Must be a currently enrolled student in a higher education institution or recent graduate
  • Solid analytical and communication skills
  • Attention to detail with the ability to collect and record information from a wide variety of sources
  • Must be reliable and able to set consistent work hours
  • Proven interest in IT and passion in furthering the mission of UMMS
  • Must have above average academic performance

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional communicator who can present information concisely
  • Outstanding listener with an attention to detail
  • Strong analytic skills
  • Familiarity with device management
  • Familiar with or can quickly learn device assessment technology
  • Preferred experience software updates and device upgrades
  • A passion for engaging customer to improve their technical environment
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive and productive professional relationships
  • Possesses positive attitude and creativity
  • Emerging organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple assignments concurrently
