
Under the direction of the Senior Director, Training & Performance Improvement, the Associate Director for Curriculum Development will lead and provide guidance on all phases of instructional design and curriculum development including the analysis of learners' needs, curriculum development and mapping, technology applications, and alignment with adult learning theory principles. The Associate Director will work closely with all training program and workforce development center directors to ensure curriculum is innovative, accessible, and learner-centered.
• Works with Center and program directors on needs assessment, design strategies, learning styles, instructional strategies and course design for face-to-face and technology-based education.
• Applies principles of learning, learning styles, and various instructional design approaches and processes to the development of training materials for learners.
• Assists in the development, design thinking, testing and prototyping of innovative curriculum designs to enhance learning.
• Assists staff in the design of technology-based curriculum materials, and the development of programs, activities, workshops and demonstrations designed to engage subject matter experts and trainers in the design, development, and integration of technology into their courses and training programs.
• Consults with subject matter experts and others to create instructional content that effectively engages the learner and ensures that all information is accurate, consistent, easy to understand, and well organized.
• Conducts training needs assessments and analysis in order to derive targeted competency- based frameworks, training strategic frameworks and learning objectives for the various curricula that might be required.
• Identify users’ needs, analyze, organize and transform complex concepts into engaging, and effective instructional activities.
• Works across CWM and UMass Chan to review trends in curriculum evaluation, highlighting opportunities to improve performance and implement related changes.
• At the overall project level, develops comprehensive project plans, manages projects effectively and proactively acts upon work assignments.
• Continues development of skills and expertise in present and emerging instructional technologies by participating in formal training whenever possible and by independent self-teaching and tutorials.
• Independently seeks advice and proactively coordinates and collaborates project/staff activities with CWM Information Technology staff.
• Interacts effectively (verbally, written, etc.) with center and program directors and training staff through various phases of design, implementation and maintenance to ensure the delivery and use of application consistent with agreed upon project goals.
• Supervises staff as assigned. Participates in recruiting of staff and staff performance reviews as assigned.
• Performs other duties as required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION
-Master’s degree or equivalent in Education, Instructional Technology, a related field, or equivalent experience.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
-Five to seven years of demonstrated experience in training and workforce development; working with training staff in workforce development, instructional design, and educational research.
-Five years of experience leading/participating in teams that develop technology-based instructional materials.
-Demonstrated progressive experience in presentation to diverse audiences; effective verbal and written communication competence.
-Solid interpersonal skills; ability to work well with people of all levels of expertise and comfort in varied organizational relationships.
-Supervisory experience.
