POSITION SUMMARY: 

Under the general direction of the Senior Technical Program Manager, the Senior Technical Project Manager is a service leader on multiple projects who has a solid understanding of project management best practice as well as the analytical capabilities to support business analyst tasks when needed. For the next 4 years, this role is supposed to manage an IT Infrastructure program. The Senior Technical Project Manager collaborates with subject matter experts and the team to define features, tasks, user stories, business processes and acceptance criteria for the project launch. This role will act as a subject matter expert and initial point of contact for the entire project. This role is responsible for removing roadblocks/impediments and protecting the team from distractions in order to facilitate delivery of customer value with their desired business processes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Facilitates recurring project meetings and communications with key stakeholders including but not limit to project planning, weekly and daily stand-ups
  • Communicates and reports team status and progress toward achieving project’s goals and overall business objectives to the product owner, department leadership and other stakeholders
  • Collaborates with the subject matter experts and leadership to develop the project team backlog to insure work is prioritized, managed, and all deadlines are met
  • Removes impediments and minimizes disruptions to the project team’s execution and success
  • Collaborates with the team to develop solutions and escalate issues as appropriate
  • Manages team’s risks and dependencies and facilitates cross-team coordination
  • Creates and maintains project issue log and project plan
  • Manage project’s health and monitors relevant metrics to proactively manage the project’s quality assurance and risk management reporting and escalation
  • Responsible for functional definition of system features in collaboration with product owner, department leadership and other stakeholders
  • Researches high-level business requirements and prepares user story workshop materials
  • Facilitates user story/feature workshops to determine business feature requirements and works with other business analysts to create business requirement documentation (BRD)
  • Ensures feature requirements meet the definitions defined by the business unit the project is supporting
  • Acts as a subject matter expert and initial point of contact to the project
  • Manage change control process and requests for the entire project
  • Oversees implementation activities including testing, training and cutover activities as required
  • Work with IT and external vendors, as needed, to develop solutions for business needs
  • Represent the Worcester campus in multi-campus and University wide systems projects
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 10 years or more of working experience in financial operations and leading cross-functional teams
  • 10 years or more of process improvement experience and executing strategic and operational transformation
  • Previous experience in IT infrastructure project management
  • Experience driving large, complex, and multi-million dollars projects from beginning to end
  • Experience managing multi-million dollars budget
  • Proven ability to identify, analyze, and solve ambiguous problems independently with an extreme attention to detail
  • Management consultant or leadership experience  
  • Maturity, judgment, and proven ability to lead and influence others
  • Must be adaptable to frequent changes, and utilizing effective decision making with limited information in dynamic situations
  • Strong facilitation skills and excellent organization skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and with staff at all levels of the organization
  • Ability and experience to work with third party vendor
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10 years or more of management consultant or leadership experience  
  • Previous working experience as senior project manager
  • Previous implementation experience
  • Previous supervising or managing experience
