GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Information Technology at The University of Massachusetts Medical School has a unique opportunity for an Audio Visual Control Programmer Intern to join us at an intersection of technology, custom programming development, and remote support.  During the internship we’ll collaborate to leverage networked audio video equipment, custom GUI interfaces, and equipment configurations for remote support, monitoring, and analytics.

Together with the Audio Visual Services team you will:

  • Create new graphics, templates, and interfaces for touch panels.
  • Configure touch panels, processors and networked equipment for monitoring, support, and analytics.
  • Use of C# and C++ for custom modules and integration design.
  • Enhance control programming of our class/meeting rooms to use with in person and remote collaboration tools.
  • Troubleshoot and debugging control system programs with the assistance of onsite staff.
  • Provide monitoring and analytics of equipment to ensure uptime of rooms and generate notifications of equipment errors.

At the end of the program, you will walk away with a greater knowledge of integrated control systems with multiple use cases for class/meeting/event technology, work independently and within a team to complete large scalable projects, and an understanding and appreciation catering to different request based on customer needs. The Audio Visual Services team will provide you with real world experience meaning you will have a competitive advantage for your resume and portfolio.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilize innovative ideas and approaches to assist in the development of working models to serve the needs of our faculty, students and researchers
  • Complete a project from start to finish and write-up and present the work product to the UMass community
  • Participate in team projects
  • Conduct online research
  • Perform other duties as required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a currently enrolled student in a higher education institution or recent graduate
  • Solid analytical and communication skills
  • Attention to detail with the ability to collect and record information from a wide variety of sources
  • Must be reliable and able to set consistent work hours
  • Proven interest in IT and passion in furthering the mission of UMMS
  • Must have above average academic performance

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Design, develop, and compile UI touch screens optimizing functionality for our audio visual connected equipment, providing a user-friendly experience in complex class and meeting room systems.
  • Understanding signal flow of audio visual equipment and de-bugging of control systems.
  • Understanding network configurations and considerations of AV devices residing on an enterprise network.
  • Edit audio Digital Signal Processors (DSP’s) for necessary solutions.
  • Understanding and advising on firmware update considerations.
  • Familiar with or can quickly learn proprietary manufacturer software.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem solving, and analytical skills to diagnose and repair new and existing audio visual systems.
  • Assist us with, monitoring, analytics, and dashboards for KPI’s.
  • Understanding of AVIXA standards.
  • Audio and Video conference (ATV/VTC) comprehension/principles within an integrated system.
  • Solid analytical and communication skills who can show their work.
  • Following trends in the industry and applying those solutions, given an environment or customer request.
  • Produce new and enhanced modules for custom equipment integration using C# and C++.
  • Possesses positive attitude and creativity.
  • A passion for AV/IT.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

This is paid, 100% offsite internship position

Duration: 6 months with possibility for extension up to 12 months

Hours: 20-40
