Job Description

Postdoc position, Guertin Lab, UMass Medical School, Nutrient Sensing, Signaling, Metabolic Disease, Cancer.  We invite outstanding candidates interested in an interactive and enthusiastic team environment to apply for a post-doctoral position to investigate nutrient sensing pathways relevant to metabolic diseases such as Type 2 Diabetes and Cancer.  Our goal is to understand how metabolic dysregulation promotes disease and to advance therapeutic strategies that improve fitness and healthspan. 

Projects are aimed at understanding cell and organ metabolism and organ-to-organ communication with a particular focus on nutrient-sensing signaling mechanisms and metabolic hubs such as brown fat, white fat, liver and brain.  Approaches include combining state-of-the-art techniques in cell and molecular biology, biochemistry and imaging with mammalian genetics, metabolomics, and in vivo isotope tracing. 

 

Qualifications:

Education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • D. in biological science or related discipline
  • Strong work ethic, highly motivated to apply skills towards solving biological problems
  • Excellent analytical skills and independent judgement
  • Highly collegial and works well on a team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate with precision and tact
  • Meticulous record keeping, proficiency with databases
  • Experience in signaling, metabolism, metabolomics, animal models a plus
