
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Vice Chancellor for City and Community Relations (“AVC”) plays a critical role in defining and distinguishing UMMS’s community relations strategy statewide, as well as leading the institution’s government relations efforts in the City of Worcester. Reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor for Government Relations, the AVC is a highly visible position that serves as a trusted representative of and compelling ambassador for UMMS in Worcester, the Central Massachusetts region and throughout the Commonwealth.
The AVC contributes to the advancement of the institution’s unique public mission and strategic objectives by interacting and collaborating with a diverse and wide array of individuals and constituent groups. The AVC develops, nurtures and sustains productive working relationships and strategic partnerships with elected and appointed officials at the municipal level and with community and civic-based organizations at the state level, with a particular focus on the greater Worcester region. Further, the AVC manages and promotes UMMS’s community and civic engagement by spearheading the institution’s annual community and charitable campaigns, representing UMMS at various community, civic and public events and acting as the primary conduit between UMMS and statewide community partners.
