POSITION SUMMARY:
The Executive Vice Chancellor for MassBiologics reports directly to the Chancellor. This position has overall management responsibility for this complex revenue-based operation. The EVC will continue to nurture an intellectual atmosphere that will attract and support world-class scientists, reinforce the excellence of MassBiologics product development, and allow the laboratory to adapt well to changes in the pharmaceutical landscape and biomanufacturing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Build on its leadership and reputation in developing biologics and conduct a strategic review of the short- and long-term development pipeline.
- Build on its experience developing novel prophylactic biologics including vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, nanobodies, viral and non-viral vectored vaccines, antibodies and oligonucleotides.
- Harmonize advanced therapeutics expertise at UMMS with translational capabilities at MassBiologics including cell, gene and nucleotide therapeutics.
- Create new and broader connections with UMMS clinical, translational and basic science faculty to identify discoveries that have the potential to become investigational new drugs.
- Lead MassBiologics selection of contemporary unmet medical needs that can be addressed using its unique infrastructure resulting in a robust pipeline.
- Lead MassBiologics efforts to secure extramural funding from state and federal governmental agencies and foundations in support of investigational new drugs or manufacturing platforms.
- Strengthen the scientific review process to enhance decision making on new targets.
- Stay abreast of innovations in new therapeutic modalities and developments in the platforms that support their development.
- Engage with the Executive Vice Chancellor for Innovation and Business Development to maximize the value of UMMS scientific assets
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Physician-Scientist with a passion for and experience in developing and commercializing innovative therapeutics.
- Scientific stature and a track record of outstanding research; an MD or MD/PhD is required;
- An extensive track record in biologics and advanced therapeutics discovery and development.
- Familiarity with many aspects of the drug development life cycle
- Familiarity with manufacturing platforms for advanced therapeutics.
- Experience working within academic medicine is desirable

- Successful experience leading the growth and development of a high-performing organizational unit, such as a research team, department, division or company to achieve a bold vision;

- Demonstrated effectiveness guiding strategic planning and collaborative decision making processes
