POSITION SUMMARY: 

Under the direction of the Director of Grant Accounting & Compliance, the Associate Director will oversee and manage all post- award grant accounting operations and compliance functions as performed by the Grant Accounting Department.  This position is responsible for the leadership and ongoing development of the Grant Accounting department staffing.  Responsibilities also include the development, implementation and enforcement of policies and procedures as they relate to all post award sponsored activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Hire, train and retain assigned grant accounting staff
  • Oversee the management of operations of Grant Accounting and Compliance
  • Responsible for procedural compliance and establishing internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data and/or systems that support grant accounting
  • Oversee billing and A/R activities for sponsored research
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures and business processes to ensure compliance with federal, state and other regulatory bodies governing grant compliance
  • Collaborate with Office of Sponsored Programs to establish and implement policies and procedures related to the post-award administration of sponsored research activity
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate submission of granting agency reports
  • Work directly with auditors and provide documentation, support and responses for annual financial, A-133 and other audit
  • Interact with decentralized departmental administrative staff and PI’s to resolve financial issues related to sponsored research
  • Develop and implement training programs related to post-award administration of grants for central and decentral research administrators
  • Responsible for the continuing education of departmental personnel with regard to regulations, requirements and policies set forth by federal and state governments and other grant and contract sponsors
  • Analyze and improve systems designed to enhance the performance related to post award administration
  • Perform other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field or equivalent experience
  • 7-9 years related business experience, with at least 5 years in support of Research Administration and 3 years of supervisory experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and writing skills needed to present and communicate effectively with a diverse population of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated time management and problem-solving skills with ability to organize and prioritize workload, identify problem areas and take action to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret financial documents such as system reports at account and summary levels
  • Extensive knowledge of OMB Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards
  • Extensive knowledge of NIH Grants Policy Statement.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Professional certification in Research Administration (CRA) or Master’s Degree in Research Administration
