POSITION SUMMARY:
Provide leadership for graduate student recruitment and admissions. Develop partnerships with academic departments and coordinate with Colleges and academic departments’ recruitment activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Applicant Recruitment:
- Lead and manage the functions of recruitment, admissions, student services for prospective and new students
- Coordinates and participates in recruitment travel, including attendance at conferences and recruitment fairs, visits to colleges and universities
- Facilitate faculty- and department/program-initiated recruitment activities
- Oversee and implement all pre-review communications with applicants
- Coordinate effort with Institutional offices
- Counsel prospective applicants regarding admissions requirements
- Advise and approve web-based recruitment content
- Maintain recruitment-oriented social media presence for the GSBS
- Collaborate with Departments and Programs to establish and review recruitment strategies
- Develop, implement, and evaluate student recruitment efforts through data analysis in conjunction with academic departments
- Assists the Dean in setting annual recruitment targets
Operations:
- Maintain and update CRM (customer relations management) /application systems
- Oversee annual review and revision of the application for admission
- Oversee the collection of application materials
- Oversee the assessment of quantitative admissions criteria
- Travel to and attendance at conferences on best practices in admission and graduate education, e.g. NAGAP, BioGAP
Applicant Review:
- Facilitate faculty-led holistic review of applications to select candidates for admission
- Maintain accurate admission records
- Communicate decisions to applicants
Candidate Interviews:
- Oversee the logistical aspects of scheduling candidate interviews with faculty
- Oversee planning and execution of candidate interview event
- Communicate with candidates prior to and throughout the interview process
- Coordinate faculty-led assessment and recommendation and deliver to Dean.
- Communicate final admissions decision to candidates.
- Coordinate faculty participation in post-decision recruitment
- Oversee yields on offers
- Maintain accurate records of communications and decisions
Policy & Procedural Assessment:
- Oversee the maintenance of admissions records
- Annually assess technical aspects of admission, including CRM, scheduling
- Assist the Dean with annual review of admissions policies and procedures
- Assist the Dean with periodic reviews of admissions and recruitment actions and their impact
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- MS or Doctoral (preferred) degree in relevant area
- At least 3 years of experience in one or more of the following: admissions and/or recruitment in an academic setting, university operations, diversity and inclusion in an academic setting, or student/academic affairs
- Experience working with university faculty, students and staff
- Ability to effectively supervise, develop, and mentor staff, knowledge of market research, a demonstrated ability to analyze problems and provide creative solutions.
- Familiar with principles and best practices around admissions, outreach, recruitment, student services, yield, and data driven management
- A focus on identifying ways to recruit a diverse student population that will cultivate an inclusive and collaborative community.
- Outstanding presentation and communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to outstanding customer service and professionalism.
- Domestic travel required
- Excellent critical thinking and interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written skills as utilized in effective management
- Familiarity with social media-based recruitment strategies
- Familiarity with Customer Relations Management or Application systems
- Proficient with Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Familiarity with relational database management
- Familiarity with workflow, collaboration, and project management software
- Supervisory experience
