GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

Reporting to the Director of Advancement or designee, the Director of the Annual Fund is responsible for the planning and execution of a comprehensive annual giving program for alumni, parents and friends of a nationally ranked Medical School.  Managing a team of annual fund professionals, this person works closely with the Director of Advancement, Director of Alumni and Parent Programs and Major Gift Officers in the cultivation, stewardship and solicitation of all constituencies.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and execute a successful Annual Fund program. Work to identify, qualify, cultivate and solicit targeted donors and prospects.  Coordinate annual giving solicitations for all constituencies to maximize giving and participation rates
  • Manage all direct mail, email, texting, and Phonathon appeals, including development of solicitation messages, identification and definition of target constituencies, supervision of all mailing logistics, negotiation with and direction of external vendors - including writers, designers, printers and mailing houses - and oversight of quality. Consult with Advancement Office Communications Manager when appropriate.
  • Manage annual reunion giving program for the School of Medicine in conjunction with Director of Alumni Relations and Major Gift Officers
  • In coordination with the Director of Advancement, Manager of Donor Relations and Manager of Communications ensure successful Giving Days
  • Perform ROI analysis related to all aspects of the annual giving program. Evaluate current program and make decisions regarding program changes
  • Manage the Dean’s Council and Hudson Hoagland Society, our annual leadership giving groups
  • Coordinate and oversee volunteer activities such as Annual Fund volunteer training sessions, individual personalized solicitation plans, phonathons and more
  • Interact frequently with Major Gift Officers and the Alumni and Parent Relations team to ensure coordination of fundraising efforts
  • Work closely with Advancement Services and Donor Relations to ensure the accuracy and quality of database records and reporting and gift acknowledgments
  • Oversee the School of Medicine Class Gift program
  • Interact with senior leadership, faculty, staff, and volunteers to accomplish goals
  • Supervise and evaluate work of annual fund staff
  • Perform other duties as required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience
  • 5-7 years of successful annual fund management or related experience
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing an effective, comprehensive annual fund program
  • Mature management and communication skills, the ability to shepherd a targeted effort within a larger and more complex department, and the operational skills that ensure tactical project management
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Strong computer and analytical skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently with minimum supervision and as a member of the Advancement team
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and meet deadlines
