POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Director of Business Relationship Management (BRM) is a senior-level, strategic business partner who shares ownership for both business strategy and business value results and leads the BRM strategy at Commonwealth Medicine. The BRM owns executive-level relationships and serves as a single point of focus, working to converge IT delivery with one or more lines of business or value streams. This is achieved by stimulating, surfacing, and shaping demand for capabilities and assets, in addition to ensuring that the potential business value from those capabilities and assets are captured, optimized, and recognized.

The BRM shapes business demand into supply by partnering with appropriate resources to facilitate the creation of idea documents, business cases, and value plans; ensuring value optimization and communication and enabling continuous improvement in all areas and people around them.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Ensure business value realization and optimization, from value plans through consultancy, business case development, financial awareness, managing expectations, and identifying opportunities to add value.
  • Act as an advocate on behalf of the IT business stakeholders to ensure the IT organization is aware of key business priorities and needs.
  • Promote business knowledge of IT process, roles and procedures to ensure the best possible outcome.
  • Work as the strategic interface with all areas within the IT organization for the purpose of business-IT strategy development, solution discovery, service management, risk management and relationship management.
  • Provide the internal and external with strategic consulting level support and guidance on the IT portfolio and key IT initiatives.
  • Identify and advocate recommendations for solution options in conjunction with the IT strategy analysts or other IT subject-matter-experts.
  • Ensure the IT solutions support the organization’s short-term and long-term business goals/strategy and align with IT strategy.
  • Maintain current knowledge of company strategic objectives, product offerings, platform/system enhancements, and any industry, legislative, or regulatory changes that may impact the IT portfolio of products and services.
  • Partner with the project/program/portfolio management organization (PMO) to ensure a healthy and well-managed initiative portfolio.
  • Partner with business leadership to plan new joint initiatives, evaluate proposals, and determine how they fit into business capability roadmaps and priorities.
  • Think strategically by identifying business function opportunities and the best-suited position for the function’s adoption within the business partner organization. Measure adoption and work with business leadership to develop future roadmap and opportunities.
  • Identify and integrate business partners’ long-range plans into business capability roadmaps and priorities, as appropriate. Brief stakeholders on business partner plans.
  • Focus on business value rather than solutions to develop ideas, including digital awareness, risk assessments, business continuity, and business capability requirements.
  • Develop a deep knowledge of the business partner’s business unit and build positive relationship development, both horizontally and vertically.
  • Ensure project and initiative progress, including consistent and effective communication. This includes managing escalation and avoiding risk.
  • Measure and communicate business value realized with the business partner on a periodic basis.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 10 - 12 years of functional experience in the business function
  • 5 - 7 years of experience facilitating the development and implementation of business initiatives and projects, based on management objectives
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and drive results
  • Desire to make an impact, manage multiple tasks, and shift priorities quickly
  • Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to influence others
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal
  • Ability to travel locally

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Business Relationship Management Professional (BRMP) preferred
