GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under the direction of the Director of Advancement or designee, the Advancement Researcher II is responsible for independently carrying out multiple complex research initiatives supporting the fundraising mission and goals of the Office of Advancement. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilize wealth screening, research tools and predictive modeling data to conduct comprehensive research on prospects, donors and all other constituent groups to determine gift capacity and maximize fundraising efforts
  • Provide key support to Advancement officers to develop research strategies for identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities
  • Devise strategies for obtaining new prospects to ensure the ongoing development, expansion, and renewal of the prospect base, to which the institution will turn for current and future support
  • Support prospect management and tracking through the design and implementation of an accurate and timely moves management program to identify, evaluate, categorize and report on the progress of major gift prospects
  • Prepare detailed and up-to-date comprehensive individual, corporate and foundation research profiles and briefings, which detail financial, professional and personal information such as interest in biomedical research or clinical care and any historical relationship to the institution for development staff, senior faculty and administrators, in advance of calls and events to obtain optimal outcomes.
  • Work closely with frontline fundraisers to help prioritize portfolios and move prospects through the solicitation pipeline
  • Plan and prepare research profiles and demographic information on potential nominees for UMMF Board of Directors, UMMF Board of Corporators and WFBR Board of Trustees
  • Oversee department information resources, including identification and selection of sources of information and information vendors
  • Train and manage Advancement staff in prospect tracking data entry and profile preparation. Oversee maintenance of prospect tracking database
  • Monitor news media to identify potential new prospects
  • Design policies and procedures for Research office
  • Survey prominent regional and national non-profit organizations for annual reports, donor honor rolls and other marketing materials
  • Conduct training programs in prospect research for Office of Advancement staff and community hospital professionals
  • Provide supervision including hiring, performance review, and disciplinary action to Advancement Researcher(s)
  • Perform other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing and Communications, or equivalent experience
  • 2 years of related experience in a fundraising environment
  • Experience in an academic health care, higher education, or other fundraising environment with a prospect management system highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated advanced prospect research and management skills and experience consistent with NEDRA and APRA Advanced skills set to identify best prospects
  • Work experience with a variety of research resource materials and databases such as Lexis-Nexis, Wealth Engine, Alumni Finder and other databases or internet websites
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, summarize and synthesize information for presentation to Advancement professionals and volunteers
  • Ability to read and interpret complex business and financial reports on donor prospects
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to motivate staff and promote teamwork
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative, manage competing priorities, and meet tight deadlines
  • Advanced technical skills with experience in relationship database management systems and fundraising systems such as Millennium, BSR Advance or Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge
  • Computer literate with working knowledge of MS Word, Access, and Excel
