GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

UMass Medical School’s Information Technology Innovation Internship program is designed to provide exceptional opportunities for talented students and to strengthen UMMS’ technology ecosystem through the innovative ideas and infectious energy of the interns. The IT Intern will get an opportunity to collaborate with a dynamic team of dedicated individuals committed to delivering forward thinking solutions with a focus on continuous improvement and advancing the health and well-being of the people in Massachusetts and the world through ground-breaking development in education, research and health care delivery.

Data Science & Technology, a division of Information Technology at The University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS) has a unique opportunity for a Recruitment Innovation Intern to join us to develop the next generation of Research Patient Web Portal.

 

During the internship you will collaborate with the Clinical Research Operations Informatics team to learn development technologies, Agile SDLC, the latest UX/UI on Web design as well as cloud computing: 

  1. Serve as one of the development staffs on the Agile team and contribute as a software engineer in designing, coding and testing of the Research Patient Web Portal.
  2. Learn the latest Web technologies in association with the development of the web product and launch effort.
  3. Assist in designing and implement system functionalities that will intergrade with Social Media like Facebook and Twitter.
  4. Learning about the latest cloud computing technologies and hand on experience using Amazon Web Services (AWS) and apply these to enhance the Research Patient Portal.
  5. Brainstorm with the rest of the team to assemble a series of programming and promotional activities in repreparation of the initial product launch. 

The UMMS clinical research teams need a strong web presence where they can advertise, recruit and outreach to the general public on clinical research they are involved.  More importantly, this Research Patient Portal will help them to educate and advocate the general public on how important clinical research activities are in terms of the translational science progression.

 

We are looking for an individual is innovative and talented.  You’ll work with the Clinical Research Operations Informatics team who are diverse and highly efficient. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Utilize innovative ideas and approaches to assist in the development of working models to serve the needs of our faculty, students and researchers
  • Complete a project from start to finish and write-up and present the work product to the UMass community
  • Participate in team projects
  • Conduct online research
  • Perform other duties as required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Must be a currently enrolled student in a higher education institution or recent graduate
  • Solid analytical and communication skills
  • Attention to detail with the ability to collect and record information from a wide variety of sources
  • Must be reliable and able to set consistent work hours
  • Proven interest in IT and passion in furthering the mission of UMMS
  • Must have above average academic performance

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Master’s degree candidate in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Object-oriented analysis, design and programming skills
  • Experience using modern development processes/tools and developing through the complete Software Development Life Cycle.
  • HTML5, CSS3, responsive design, Javascript
  • Experience with MVC Development
  • Experience with SQL Server database management, SQL coding
