GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under the direction of the Director or designee, the Advancement Research Associate is responsible for conducting a variety of research activities to develop and maintain comprehensive profiles on current and potential donors. Works closely with the fund raising staff to identify potential sources of information which may be accessed to conduct research. Responsible for the production of research reports which satisfy the informational requirements of the Advancement Officers.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops procedures, systems guidelines and standard formats for complete research profiles to assist fund raising staff in helping to plan the solicitation of major gift prospects. Responsible for the preparation of accurate and detailed profiles about individuals, corporations, and foundations which enable the Advancement officers to plan comprehensive and effective solicitation strategies
  • Assists in identifying potential donors for various fund raising priorities using verbal, written, and electronic information sources. Assists in rating of prospects and donors to determine the maximum potential of their philanthropy
  • Responsible for a variety of research, data input, and donor profiling using the Advancement office computer system and on-line data retrieval systems. Works closely with the Advancement Database Analyst to develop computer research report formats which satisfy the requirements of the gift officers. Interacts with Advancement officers to ascertain their needs and to analyze the resource requirements necessary to complete those requirements
  • Provides ongoing training to Advancement staff on the broad spectrum of research capabilities. Reports at monthly Advancement meetings on research activity and findings. Recommends individuals, corporations, and foundations who should be cultivated by Advancement office
  • Perform other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • Excellent research, written, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of computerized data bases and word processing
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to differentiate between important and irrelevant data
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to being a member of the advancement team
