Open Position for Postdoctoral Fellow
Program in Bioinformatics and Integrative Biology
This is an exciting opportunity to join the laboratory of Dr. Jeff Bailey in the Program in Bioinformatics and Integrative biology, University of Massachusetts Medical School. The Bailey lab combines innovative experimental and computational approaches to study the genetic underpinnings of infectious disease and host-pathogen interactions with a focus on malaria.
The position is for a postdoctoral fellow who will work on NIH funded research examining human and parasite genetics in malaria with a particular focus on susceptibility to severe malaria and parasite drug resistance.
The ideal candidate would have strong wet-lab and computational (statistical/programming) proficiencies. Desired skills include laboratory experience such as PCR, next-gen sequencing, array comparative genomic hybridization, allowing for the generation of data by next-gen sequencing. This would be combined with skills in computational genomics or genetics such as R/BioConductor, Python/Perl, allowing for the manipulation and analysis of large genomic datasets generated by microarrays and high throughput sequencing. Applicants lacking significant computational and wet-lab experience will be considered if candidate has a strong aptitude and desire to develop such skills.
The right candidate will also have strong organization and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to productively work as a member of a team. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
