Overview:

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

Under the general direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, the Assistant Director of Financial Systems Support is responsible for overseeing all activities related to the Medical School’s financial applications.  This includes maintenance of system tables and configuration, establishment of processes and procedures, development of systems and reporting, and user support.  The Assistant Director of Financial Systems will be expected to work with key stakeholders to understand the business impact of financial decisions and implement financial management systems to address decision-making while also ensuring that the financial resource requirements of the organizations are met.

Responsibilities:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the operations of Finance System support, including managing individual performance to meet departmental and institutional goals, and evaluate and maintain an effective organizational structure
  • Oversee the maintenance and operation of all financial systems, with responsibility for:
  • Functional system configuration and maintenance
  • Support of system operations including interfaces and processes
  • Design, development, testing and implementation of upgrades, new modules and new systems
  • Query and report development
  • Review and administration of system security
  • Coordination of system and process documentation
  • User training
  • User support
  • Establish campus level standards and procedures to ensure the integrity of the systems and data
  • Monitor compliance with campus and University standards and procedures to ensure the integrity of the systems and data
  • Coordinate and participate in identification, evaluation and prioritization of finance system needs and the development of solutions
  • Evaluate the business impact of financial decisions and implement financial management systems to address decision-making while also ensuring that the financial resource requirements of the organizations are met.
  • Collaborate with staff of all UMMS Business Units, as well as with internal and external stakeholders supporting the financial operations of UMMS to gather business requirements and translate those requirements into systems based solutions
  • Work with UITS and IT, as needed, to develop and integrate business intelligence reporting applications
  • Develop training and other materials and communications to instruct and inform users at all levels on system changes and how to use the finance systems
  • Provide support for finance related components of non-finance systems
  • Represent the Worcester campus in multi-campus and University wide systems projects
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned

Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field, or equivalent
  • 7 years progressively responsible experience in finance or accounting operations
  • 5 years demonstrated experience working with financial systems, including system development, implementation and support
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and manage multiple priorities
