GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:
This person functions in all phases of Web application development including the analysis of user needs, software and database design, review, programming and implementation of web-based information. Similarly, enhances and supports existing systems, including upgrades, conversions, problem resolution and adapting existing applications/databases to new Web technology. Communicates well with the user through all phases of development and support. Performs duties in a manner consistent with a complex, diverse, dynamic hardware and software environment that serves a complex medical/education community.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works as part of a team with the user and/or vendors to articulate and document user application needs.
- Assists in the design, development, implementation, integration, production support, and continuous enhancement of web-based applications to insure reliable, integrated, secure information repository and delivery in a distributed environment.
- Assists in the functional analysis and technical design of data into a new or existing data repository (flat, single or multilevel indexed, relational, local or distributed database) that is reliable, integrated, secure, Web-enabled, meets performance criteria, and is appropriate to support the Web-based application.
- Provides end user training and support of developed applications. Assists in developing and maintaining proper technical and user documentation for each system in a consistent and structured manner.
- Insures quality control through testing and debugging software for accuracy, completeness, and system integrity. Develops procedures to assure the smooth transition of new systems and enhancements into operational status.
- Independently seeks the advice of director and proactively coordinates project/staff activities with Information Services Department staff and vendors.
- Interacts effectively (verbally, written, etc.) with users through various phases of design, implementation and maintenance to ensure the delivery and use of application consistent with agreed upon project goals.
- Assists in performing technical services necessary to support the continuous delivery of service including: application enhancement, project tracking, development of software development utilities and application development procedures and the like.
- Continues development of skills and expertise in present and emerging Internet technologies by participating in formal training when possible and by independent self-teaching and tutorials.
- Helps define, acts in accordance and in coordination with IT standards as determined by IS
- Acts as project coordinator on assigned projects..
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree required in Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent.
- Three years demonstrated progressive experience in developing, enhancing and supporting departmental applications in a networked, multi-vendor diverse-platform environment. Expertise in all phases; analysis, application design, data design, programming, testing, installing, maintenance, documenting, user training.
- Demonstrated progressive experience in presentation to diverse audience.
- Effective verbal and written communication competence.
- Solid interpersonal skills, with ability to work well with people of all levels of expertise and comfort in varied organizational relationships.
- Supervisory experience.
- Near visual acuity. Work sedentary. Manual dexterity.
- Two years demonstrated progressive experience in web-based application development
- Experience with application development environments and languages including but not limited to:
- HTML, PHP, CSS and JavaScript
- C, C++, JAVA
- PERL
- Experience with application development environments and languages including but not limited to:
