The University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS) was founded by act of the Massachusetts state legislature in 1962. The founding vision and mission of the medical school was to advance the health and well-being of the people of the commonwealth and the world through pioneering education, research and health care delivery. With the addition of graduate schools in biomedical science and nursing, the Medical Schools early medical education-driven mission evolved into a three-pronged mission of teaching, research, and service. Almost 60 years later, UMMS is now one of the nations top 50 medical schools in funding and productivity. UMMS fosters a robust biomedical research enterprise, generating more than $200 million annually in research awards.

The UMMS Cardiovascular Center of Excellence comprises the Divisions of Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery and Vascular Surgery, including sections of clinical, translational and basic science research. It is configured to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration and improve clinical care. The Division of Cardiology has 38 full-time faculty members, including 7 electrophysiologists, and has approximately $8 million in ongoing research funding, approximately 80% of which comes from Federal sources.

Our arrhythmia gene therapy lab is recruiting a post-doctoral fellow with interest in developing and translating novel gene therapies to the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. Interested candidates will want to work in this exciting environment, where the first arrhythmia gene therapies were developed and are being developed for clinical testing. Candidates should have a desire to learn cardiac electrophysiology, molecular biology or gene transfer techniques and should have some experience in one or more of these areas.

Applicants must have either an MD or PhD or equivalent degree and prior research experience. Gene therapy, patch clamp, optical mapping or molecular analysis experience is required.

UMass Chan Medical School welcomes all qualified applicants and complies with all state and federal anti-discrimination laws.
