GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

Under the general direction of the Associate Controller or designee, the Staff Accountant III prepares financial analyses and monthly account reconciliations and assists with the monthly close and preparation of financial statements for presentation to senior management. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process monthly recharge and other manual journal entries for decentral users; manage Recharge Mailbox; provide assistance to decentral users for their journal entry needs
  • Manage intercompany accounts with UMMHC; prepare monthly reconciliation for all line items and monthly DTDF schedule; post monthly accrual and cash application entries; process monthly dental invoices and annual 403b invoices for Dual Docs; prepare monthly wires to settle liabilities owed to UMMHC
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations for other key balance sheet accounts
  • Perform analyses to explain variances in financial results and resolve reconciling items
  • Assist with preparation of the Medical Schools consolidated monthly and annual financial statements
  • Recommend improvements to financial controls and reporting
  • Prepare, review, and coordinate audit work papers and financial analysis for annual external audit
  • Provide support to other General Accounting team members, including Senior Accountants, Accounting Manager and Property Accounting team
  • Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3-5 years in financial accounting and reporting, or related experience
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret financial documents such as system reports at both account and summary levels
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and writing skills needed to present or communicate effectively with all levels of management
  • Ability to work independently according to priority and current projects

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficiency with general ledger functions and reports, PeopleSoft or similar is preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar software with advanced MS Excel experience highly preferred
