POSITION SUMMARY: 

Under the general direction of the Director or designee, the Business Systems Integration Specialist is responsible for the analysis of business operations (including data analysis), with practical familiarity, and in context of, all software tools and manual processes utilized in effecting business operations. The Specialist is responsible for performing internal control activities of assigned programs within the department. This position will take primary responsibility for monitoring, testing, tracking and ensuring smooth implementation of all system maintenance releases and all system upgrades, conversions and enhancements for the department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Participate in needs assessment, requirements gathering, proposal development, implementation, updates, and ongoing maintenance for software and other business management initiatives
  • Analyze historical utilization, cost, and caseload projections for operational activities. Identify tools, or improvements to current tools, to streamline business operations. Evaluate requests for system enhancement. Make recommendations on process and other improvements
  • Interface with information services and vendors. Ensure that any software departmental directions and/or solutions recommended or implemented meet all applicable UMass Medical School computing policies
  • Integrate business operation needs with software, data, and project tools to produce reports.
  • Validate report data and monitor data coming from the system to ensure quality reporting. Reconcile data and reports generated as the result of business interfaces
  • Responsible for tracking and monitoring IT/vendor status regarding system issues and enhancement requests including facilitating methods for business management to set system-related work priorities.
  • Administer software applications including tasks such as staff password administration, table updates, report development, and upgrade implementations
  • Trouble-shoot software tool issues from a business operations perspective to assist business users in accurately diagnosing system problems and in reporting issues to IT
  • Coordinate user acceptance testing, including development and execution of test plans, coordination with operations unit staff on testing procedures and findings, communication with IT/vendor technical staff on testing findings and scheduling of new software releases
  • Assist staff at all levels with system related issues and develop/ implement a user manual and system patches
  • May provide functional supervision to staff on system-related items, such as leading a user acceptance testing effort.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor management and internal control plans
  • Execute quality and internal control reviews
  • Act as primary contact and coordinator for department internal and external audits
  • Prepare clearly written reports of internal review findings and recommend process improvements
  • Develop and execute workflow improvement trainings when they arise related to system enhancements and development.
  • Perform other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • BS in Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of experience working with software and/or main-frame applications support and/or development with a focus on the business operations and end-user perspective of interfacing with the software
  • Familiarity with concepts of software application development and project execution
  • Basic understanding of relational database concepts and ability to extract relevant data using ad-hoc reporting tools.
  • Ability to assess the impact on operations when considering changes to software tools and conversely, able to assess the impact of changes to business process to the software tool
  • Analytical ability
  • Prior experience developing, implementing and monitoring operations quality improvement programs
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of auditing
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information and to exercise good judgment and discretion
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing
  • Ability to solve problems, synthesize data, and manage time effectively
  • Ability to travel to off-site locations, occasionally including out of state travel

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Masters Degree in Business or related field
  • Familiarity with health care claims processing, systems and standards
  • Experience designing and executing effective software testing protocols and procedures from an business operations perspective
  • Experience with workflow design and process improvement, particularly with respect to identifying opportunities for improving efficiency and quality through automation
  • Demonstrated ability with SQL, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Crystal Reports, MSWord, Object linking with Microsoft etc.
