GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Advancement, the Principal Gifts Officer will be responsible for managing a portfolio of 100+ prospects that have the potential to contribute $100,000 or more to UMass Chan fundraising priorities. The Principal Gifts Officer will be a key participant in the Office of Advancement major and principal gifts initiative, particularly with respect to plans to broaden the base of support and to secure philanthropic investment for the Schools $500M comprehensive fundraising campaign – Advancing Together: The Campaign for UMass Chan.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as primary manager of a prospect portfolio consisting of 100+ major and principal gift prospects, consisting predominantly of alumni, parents and friends of the School.
  • Develops individual strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of principal gift prospects.
  • Solicits major gifts of $100K - $500K and principal gifts of $500K - $1M+.
  • Works closely with senior administrators, faculty, staff, volunteers, and friends.
  • Maintains a high level of constituency satisfaction through the stewardship of donors, volunteers and friends.
  • Conducts all efforts in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Perform other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree, or equivalent
  • 10 years of successful fundraising experience
  • Strong familiarity around best practices with major and principal giving and gift planning
  • Fundraising experience at an academic health science center is preferred
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Strong organizational skills
