This internship program will begin Monday June 3rd and will end Friday, August 9th. The pay is $16-$17 an hour and the position is expected to be full-time over those 10 weeks. This will be a hybrid internship with mandatory in person sessions that are part of the program once a week. 


About Emerging Professionals Summer Internship Program (EPSIP) at UMass Chan Medical School 

The Emerging Professionals Summer Internship Program (EPSIP) is a paid internship experience for talented college students.  Individuals historically underrepresented in STEM, health science and medicine are strongly encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to students that identify from one of the following underrepresented groups in STEM, health science and medicine:  Black/African Americans, Hispanic or Latinx, American Indian or Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and other Pacific Islanders, individuals with a disability or the first in their family to attend college, are also strongly encourage to apply.

Participants in the EPSIP program benefit from: 

  • a 10 week, paid summer business internship at UMass Chan with an administrative focus

General Summary of Position 

The UMass Chan Medical School Office of Advancement seeks a summer intern who is interested in learning from an experienced team of fundraising and philanthropy professionals and contributing to the offices success in raising critical funds. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys researching individuals and organizations, writing for different audiences, and who will be enthusiastic about learning how a professional fundraising team fulfills its mission. Supervised by a member of the Corporate and Foundation Relations team within the Office of Advancement, this position will be charged with researching prospective funders for UMass Chan and helping to develop research briefs on foundations and other organizations with the capacity to support faculty and researchers in the medical, biomedical, and nursing fields.



The Office of Advancement intern will have the opportunity to participate in strategic team meetings and discussions related to campus-wide priorities like the Collaborative in Health Equity and programs for those who are underserved and underrepresented in research and services. They will also have the opportunity to meet the entire Office of Advancement and engage in fundraising projects outside of corporate and foundation relations if they would like. At the end of the internship, one will have the tools and knowledge to be able to do thorough research for philanthropic funding to support their own passions and work—critical lifelong skills for anyone interested in working for or leading a mission-driven organization.

The Office of Advancement prides ourselves in a collegial and collaborative professional environment—embracing UMass Chans Advancing Together campaign. The 2024 Office of Advancement intern will be a hybrid position, with some working hours in-person at/near UMass Chan Medical School's campus, located in Worcester, MA, and some working hours performed remotely. A self-starter with who can complete projects by or before deadlines should excel in the role.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience or demonstrated interest in writing and analytical skills is required, along with reliable transportation to the Worcester campus and Office of Advancement site in Shrewsbury. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (minimum Word and Excel). Experience or demonstrated interest in at least one of the following areas is preferred: research, organizing information, and/or fundraising.


Must be a college student currently enrolled in a 2- or 4-year program or recent college graduate within 2 years.
