Overview:

The RNA Therapeutics Institute (RTI) seeks a trained scientist to develop and coordinate a variety of educational and outreach activities, including international symposia, to promote the communication of science and advancement of discoveries in the field of RNA research.  This is a new position for the RTI which recently became an academic department after several successful years operating as an institute.

 

Under the general direction of the Chair, or designee, the Senior Program Officer is responsible for collaborating with faculty, the departments of Communications and Advancement, and external stakeholders, to promote internal and external communications to a wide range of constituents; and assist in the development of grant proposals, scientific communications, symposia, strategic marketing plans, and fund raising activities.

Responsibilities:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Plan, organize and host RNA conferences and international symposia; identify key stakeholders and presenters current in the field
  • Plan and prepare major departmental grant initiatives
  • Collaborate with the departments of Communications and Advancement to promote internal and external communications for the department, using multimedia tools and current technologies.
  • Create and disseminate materials to facilitate public understanding of the department’s research.
  • Collaborate with Communications and Advancement to develop and implement a strategic fund raising campaign.
  • Maintain social media presences for lay audiences; contribute to department website for communication of announcements, news, research accomplishments.
  • Work with the Chair/Designee to identify and maintain a cost effective scientific and public communication plan.
  • Identify opportunities for awards and assist in preparation of nominations
  • Assist in faculty development and promotion efforts
  • Perform other job duties as required

Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in a scientific, health care or communications field
  • 5 years of related scientific/ health care communication experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and utilization of social media communications
  • Experience with grant applications, scientific communications, and publications
  • Experience in using computer-based tools and relevant software (PC/Mac; Microsoft Office, Adobe applications, webpage design tools etc.)
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to elicit and leverage creative thinking and implement novel solutions
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly-collaborative environment and interact with faculty and staff at all levels of the organization

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD in a Biological Science field
