POSITION SUMMARY: 

Under the general supervision of the IT Infrastructure and Operations leadership or designee, the Associate Cloud Engineer will assist with the implementation of redundant and resilient cloud native and hybrid cloud solutions with a focus on large-scale enterprise-wide solutions for the University. In addition, the Associate Cloud Engineer will help automate provisioning and configuration changes for cloud solutions within the University multi-cloud environment. The Associate Cloud Engineer will possess the ability to contribute to creative and innovative solutions and provide opinions on cloud services based on experience and knowledge.

The Associate Cloud Engineer is part of an innovative team devoted to implementing the Universities multi cloud strategy and providing best in class cloud solutions and services for UMass Chan Medical School. As a member of the team, you will work closely with clients, project / program managers, and other IT teams designing and implementing cloud native and hybrid cloud solutions in accordance with the Universities strategic and tactical goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Implement cloud and hybrid cloud solutions in alignment with the Medical School's strategic and tactical business plans
  • Contribute to cloud standards development, incorporating prior knowledge and industry best practices
  • Assist in automating infrastructure management and maintenance with a focus on cloud-based solutions utilizing Infrastructure as Code best practices
  • Assist with cloud infrastructure, communication, security policies, and audit compliance based on the Medical School’s standards and policies
  • Support cloud user and group access to cloud services and systems utilizing PIM and following the Medical School’s standards
  • Optimize all aspects of cloud solutions including performance, resiliency, and availability
  • Participate in operational support to ensure service reliability
  • Perform other duties as necessary

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, IT related field or equivalent experience
  • 1-3 years of IT technology experience
  • 1-3 years of experience with Azure and/or AWS in multi-region, multi-account environment
  • 1-3 years of experience with cloud templating solutions (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation, Resource Manager Templates).
  • Understanding of operating cloud services, including monitoring/alerting, cloud security and problem resolution
  • Understanding and previous experience with an automation framework and scripting languages, such as Python, Ansible, and PowerShell, for cloud build and deployment
  • Understanding of SDLC best practices and experience with code management.
  • Understanding of Agile, Scrum, or SAFe development methodologies
  • Solid interpersonal skills, with ability to work well with people of all levels of information technology expertise
  • Passion in furthering the mission of UMass Chan Medical School through IT and cloud solutions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1-3 years of experience working with cloud network design, implementations, and support (AWS, Azure)
  • Knowledge of and experience with PaaS databases, logic apps, application gateways, IaaS compute, network, storage, backup, and disaster recovery
  • Knowledge of containerization platforms, Docker, and Kubernetes
  • Knowledge of and experience with agile development, continuous integration, and automated testing
  • Experience working across a team tasked with design and implementation of cloud concepts and services.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to provide documentation
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing
