POSITION SUMMARY: 

Under the direction of the Director of Admissions, the Admissions Counselor represents UMMS SOM at recruitment and yield events, both on and off campus, with the goal of attracting a diverse applicant pool of medical school prospects, with the aim of converting said applicants to enrolled students. The successful candidate will assist in the application management process utilizing operations systems that are in place and will also provide support for the various Pipeline Programs that are part of Admissions’ portfolio. The Admissions Counselor will also provide support to the students who partner with the Admissions team such as the Ambassadors, Recruiters and Second Look Committee.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Recruitment:

  • Participate in discussions to identify strategic recruitment events using data analysis among other tactics to identify prospects for both the SOM and pipeline programs, allowing the SOM to attract diverse applicants such as unrepresented in medicine, first generation applicants, non-traditional etc.
  • Represent UMMS SOM at various recruitment events which are virtual, in person, on campus and off campus. Such events include but are not limited to medical school fairs, high school fairs, information sessions, webinars, open houses, interview days and so forth.
  • Support the administrative efforts of planning and coordinating the different aspects of the Pipeline Programs, as well as assist in organizing the major events associated with the programs.

Administrative:

  • Provide support to the student groups such as the Ambassadors, Recruiters and Second Look Committee members as they partner with the Admissions Office to assist with recruitment and yield events.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of on campus events including but not limited to virtual interviews and various on campus visit opportunities for applicants and accepted students.
  • Assist in triaging inquiries that come to Admissions Office via email or phone, answering questions where appropriate or forwarding inquiries to the appropriate party for an answer.
  • Meet with prospective applicants who come to the office.

Admissions Operations Management

  • Cross train on and assist with admissions operations tasks
  • Assist with preparation and setup for Admissions Committee meetings, training sessions, and other activities as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent experience
  • 2 years’ experience in higher education admissions, graduate admissions or medical school admissions experience preferred
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including underrepresented in medicine, first generation college and economically disadvantaged applicants
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to give presentations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with students, faculty, staff, and the public
  • Strong technical skills and the ability to work within various higher education and social platforms. Experience with, but not limited to Slate, PeopleSoft, Pardot/Salesforce, EpiServer (or similar website management systems), all social media and Google applications preferred.
  • Ability to travel for recruitment
