GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under the general direction of the Manager, the Staff Accountant I-FS/CHCF is responsible for performing diversified and complex administrative and accounting duties. The Staff Accountant will gather financial data, prepare financial analyses, and assist with the preparation of financial data for senior management. Additionally, they will provide support to the Accounting Manager - FS/CHCF in the areas of account reconciliations, monthly financial reports, and invoicing.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for senior management
- Prepares daily deposit and coordinates check refund process (if necessary)
- Validate that all data (check receipts, disbursements, etc) is represented accurately in financial systems and make changes as needed
- Communicate effectively with all levels of management regarding fiscal and internal control policies
- Perform complex reconciliations on a daily and monthly basis for for key accounts to the University’s Financial Reporting System
- Prepare reports and provides data analysis for management, including monthly invoicing schedule and reports
- Recommend improvements to financial controls and reporting
- Prepare reports as needed for reporting to appropriate state agencies
- Provide management with needed information and assists in problem resolution
- Maintain current knowledge in areas related to primary job function through training courses or review written material
- Communicate (oral and written) with departmental staff
- Coordinate special projects as assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or equivalent
- 3 years financial accounting ,reporting & analysis, or related experience
- Ability to design and program spreadsheets, databases, or custom reports
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and writing skills needed to communicate effectively with all levels of management
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret financial documents such as system reports
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar software
