Postdoctoral Fellowships in Autism Implementation Research

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship position for a recently funded multi-site NIMH Collaborative R01 study, under the direction of Dr. Sarabeth Broder-Fingert, MD MPH Associate Director for Research at The Eunice Kennedy Shriver Center at UMass Medical School and Vice Chair for Clinical Research in Pediatrics at UMass Medical School. The post-doc will work directly with Dr. Broder-Fingert on studying the implementation of an early autism intervention across a multisite collaborative with Drs. Alice Carter (University of Massachusetts Boston), Dr. Brooke Ingersoll (Michigan State University), Dr. Wendy Stone (University of Washington), and Dr. Allie Wainer (Rush University Medical Center). This community-based randomized controlled trial will examine the effectiveness of training EI providers to deliver Reciprocal Imitation Training (RIT) within the Part C Early Intervention (EI) system across four states (Massachusetts, Michigan, Washington and Illinois).

This post-doc will work closely with other postdoctoral fellows associated with the study, and with the investigators as key members of the project team. This Implementation Evaluation Fellow will be responsible for a large implementation evaluation, including qualitative interviews, quantitative assessment of modification and adaptations of RIT, and health policy analysis. The fellow will be involved in data collection, data analysis, authorship on manuscripts and presentations, and engagement with community partners. The fellow will benefit from joint mentoring from the PIs and study investigators, access to broader training opportunities in each site, and support for conference travel. There is potential to obtain supervised professional experience hours for psychology licensure.

Strong applicants will have experience delivering evidenced-based assessment and intervention for toddlers and young children with ASD, coaching parents, and training community providers, and must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Bilingual (Spanish and English) applicants are strongly encouraged to apply. Appointments will be made for one year, with a second year re-appointment expected and third year re-appointment possible based on review of the fellow’s progress. Fellowships will be available for start dates as early as July 1, 2021, although there is flexibility. Given restrictions associated with COVID-19, location is flexible, with the possibility of a remote position. The current stipend for first year fellows is commensurate with the standard National Institutes of Health rate and includes eligibility for benefits.

Interested applicants should submit a letter of interest, CV, and list of three references to Sarabeth Broder-Fingert MD at sarabeth.broderfingert1@umassmed.edu
