Postdoctoral fellow – TB immunometabolism and host-directed therapy

Department of Medicine

Responsibilities:

Design and carry out experiments to explore one of more of the following topics: mechanisms of metformin protective efficacy in tuberculosis; role of patrolling monocytes and CD8+ Tm cells in tuberculosis resolution; adipose tissue inflammation and metabolic perturbation in tuberculosis. These projects involve work with the murine aerosol tuberculosis model, flow cytometry, metabolic assays and analysis of gene expression and epigenetics. Collaborators on these projects include Drs. Amit Singhal (A*STAR Singapore Immunology Network and ID Lab) and Matthew Magee (Emory).

Expectations include participation in lab meetings, preparation of oral presentations for program/department research in progress meetings, submission of abstracts for poster and oral presentations at national/international meetings, and oversight of technical staff working on related projects.

Requirements :

Highly motivated investigator with a PhD in Immunology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology or related discipline.

Working knowledge of cellular immunology and innate and adaptive immune pathways.

Hands-on laboratory experience in relevant methodologies, trouble-shooting technical problems, and data analysis skills.

Experience in the following techniques preferred:  working with Mycobacterium tuberculosis at BSL-3/ABSL-3; handling mice; preparation of lung, lymphoid and adipose tissues for histology and cell  isolation; multicolor flow cytometry; DNA/RNA purification and quantification; qPCR and NanoString assays; enzyme-based immunoassays; immunofluorescent/confocal microscopy; Seahorse metabolic flux analysis; database comparisons.

Outstanding organizational and time management skills, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
