GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

UMass Medical School’s Information Technology Innovation Internship program is designed to provide exceptional opportunities for talented students and to strengthen UMMS’ technology ecosystem through the innovative ideas and infectious energy of the interns. The IT Intern will get an opportunity to collaborate with a dynamic team of dedicated individuals committed to delivering forward thinking solutions with a focus on continuous improvement and advancing the health and well-being of the people in Massachusetts and the world through ground-breaking development in education, research and health care delivery.

Information Technology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School has a unique opportunity for a UX/Data Analytics Intern with a passion for innovation to join us in translating strategy into dynamic user experiences. During the internship, you will take part in user-centered design methods such as user research/synthesis, exploration, storytelling, detailed design, journey mapping, and prototyping.

Together with IT Digital Strategy team, you will:

  • Create human-centered experiences by designing the structural and informational foundation.
  • Facilitate the delivery of all elements, interactions, and decisions that add value to the total user experience.
  • Develop and optimize landing pages on the university’s website to provide a conversion funnel to improve conversion rates from email prospect marketing efforts, as well as advertisement.
  • Create UI elements that simplify complex concepts into user-friendly and engaging visualizations and experiences.
  • Monitor web analytics dashboards, reports and key reporting tools, and point out key areas of importance in accordance customers goals.
  • Develop analytic solutions and innovative ways to visually represent user perceptions of their digital experiences.
  • Leverage existing tools to proactively identify and report on trends and issues which impact end user experience.
  • Keep pace with SEO, search engine, social media and internet marketing industry trends and developments.

This internship program will begin Monday June 7th and will end Friday, August 6th. The pay is $16/hour and the position is expected to be full-time over those 9 weeks. This will be a remote internship.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilize innovative ideas and approaches to assist in the development of working models to serve the needs of our faculty, students and researchers
  • Complete a project from start to finish and write-up and present the work product to the UMass community
  • Participate in team projects
  • Conduct online research
  • Perform other duties as required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Candidates pursuing bachelor’s degree or recent graduates
  • Related experience preferred
  • Must be reliable and able to set consistent work hours
  • Ability to use standard office tools and software (MS-Office)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Proficiency of common graphic design and UI design tools.
  • Solid design thinking fundamentals.
  • Care about design process and being data informed.
  • Results driven, guided by principles and best practices, and thrive in a fast paced, iterative environment.
  • Experience or interest with Data Visualization tools.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze data leading to insights.
  • Attention to detail ensuring data integrity.
  • Experience or interest with programming languages to process data.
  • Passionate about research, particularly uncovering insights related to audiences.
  • Work well in a collaborative team setting.
