GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:  

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator or Designee, the Research Technician performs a variety of complex research experiments.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join a dynamic research team in the area of immunology and stem cell biology.  The Research Technician will develop cell based assays for evaluating immune cell function. The ideal candidate will have experience in flow cytometry, cell culture and other immunological assays.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Mammalian cell culture maintenance and cell-based assays
  • Hands-on experience with functional assay development and optimization.
  • Standard molecular and cell biology techniques (e.g. RT-qPCR, Western blotting, cell line engineering, CRISPR)
    immune cell characterization techniques (e.g. lymphocyte activation, flow cytometry).
  • Maintain detailed lab notebook
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform a variety of laboratory experiments using both routine and special techniques and methods
  • Assist in more complex laboratory tasks
  • Collect, analyze, and process laboratory samples
  • Record results, organize data, and perform basic computations
  • Maintain laboratory supplies and equipment
  • Comply with all safety and infection control standards
  • Perform other duties as required.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform complex laboratory experiments
  • Analyze and interpret data, and form conclusions
  • Write standard operating procedures, maintain accurate records, and write reports
  • Upon training may modify protocols and be responsible for a single, independent research project
  • Train new laboratory personnel, students, and collaborators
  • Comply with all safety and infection control standards
  • Perform other duties as required.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in the Biological Sciences, or equivalent experience
  • Ability to troubleshoot and develop/optimize assays
  • Attention to detail and careful record-keeping
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects
  • Flexible team player
  • Strong ability to analyze complex visual data in a quantitative and objective manner
  • Judgment and action skills required to solve commonly encountered problems


Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS or MS with some expertise in relevant discipline
  • Experience with cell culture or cell-based assays
  • Experience in flow cytometry
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and perform in new areas and implement new techniques
  • Must be highly motivated in a fast paced environment

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Wet chemistry laboratory, and may require appropriate contact with biohazards, radionucleotides, toxins, animals, and human specimens.
